Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

The important thing here is that you have learned a few lessons about hiv and perhaps yourself as well. You MUST remember to use condoms for intercourse, every time, no exceptions, until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have BOTH tested together.

Thank you for making a donation and I'm sure the folks in Portland will appreciate your efforts in the upcoming AIDS Walk. However, the BEST thanks you can give us is to make sure you use condoms and stay hiv negative - and make sure your friends know the risks of unprotected intercourse as well. To go bare is to risk your health.

Use condoms and avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Sorry to bring up another question...

I had a CBC done because of my night sweats at 8 weeks after my exposure (My doctor thought I was nuts for thinking I might have HIV from that exposure with her negative test, but told me to get tested at 6 months, the usual) He thought I might have lymphoma or something.

Well, the test results came back fairly normal, until I compared them to my test results from a CBC done back in Feb of this year (I don't recall exactly why it was done, I wasn't sick at the time).

Well, my results on the current test were, just putting down a few of them that seem important.

WBC: 7.8
Platelete Count: 248
Absolute Lymphocyte- 2340
Percent Lymph- 30.0
Absolute Neutrophil- 4867
Percent Neut- 30.0

And my old test (Feb of 06)

WBC- 6.0
Platelet- 237
Absolute Lymphocyte- 2538
Percent Lymph- 42.3
Absolute Neutrophil- 2898
Percent Neut- 48.3

My question is, my lymphocytes did decline a little, over 200 on the TLC, but my Neutrophil's -skyrocketed- to 4867 from 2898. Could this indicate that some other type of transient infection was causing my issues, and not just my imagination? I know I can rule out HIV at this point, which is always good news, but I'm still confused by my symptoms, namely the night sweats.

This is a question that you should have asked your doctor. It's not a guessing game. Now if you are thinking that those results are related to HIV infection, you are trying to guess again. See your doctor for an explanation of your tests.

The "Thrush" thing has kept bothering me, so I took another test, besides, I worried about the accuracy of my 13 week test...

It was one of those "Uni-Gold" tests, and the instructions say they need to be put on a flat, level surface. After my sample was collected, the test was taken from the "Consult Room" out to the lab to be timed, so the test was moved. I'm scared that by moving the test, it could of been a false negative.

I called the maker of Uni-Gold, and the support tech just didn't know, and told me to get re tested if I was concerned.

So I hopped back in the car and went back to get tested -again- today, but this time I couldn't bleed enough to fully fill the pipette! The nurse (A different one than the first) said this didn't matter as long as the control line appeared and the droplet window was fully filled with blood, but...

Both of these tests seem to not be in line with the exact instructions on their use, how tolerable are these tests to such imperfections? For instance, I know the sample size for OraQuick must vary significantly depending on how wet the gums are, ect, and it's still accurate.

Does anyone know if I can trust these results?

Moving the sample will NOT alter the results. You are negative and quite second guessing your results.

Well, yeah....I was second guessing it, and to make it more confusing...

When I searched online, I actually found conflicting information on how to perform the UniGold test, ranging from using the whole pipette and 4 drops of wash, to 2 drops of blood and 2 drops of wash, to 1 drop of blood and 4 drops of wash.

Obviously it has a fairly high tolerance for variation in sample size.

Obviously I don't have a clue, and the testers do.
