I really enjoy teen flicks.  I know it's really low brow of me, but like I care.

We rented and watched "Mr. Magorium's" today.  It was a really sweet movie.  It went over the heads of some of the younger kids, but they enjoyed watching the toys jump around.  We've also rented "Beowulf" and "The Kid From Mars" - about a man who adopts a little boy who tells people he's from Mars.  It reminded us so much of our #2 that we couldn't resist.  Not sure which we'll watch tonight, but I'll let you know how they were.

I just finished watching Breach. I liked it very much.

Breach
Soon after landing a plum job working for FBI operative Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper), Eric O'Neill (Ryan Phillippe) realizes he's been brought in to spy on his boss, who's suspected of selling secrets to the Soviets. But can O'Neill handle such an important assignment with so little field experience, or will Hanssen get to him first? Laura Linney and Dennis Haysbert also star in director Billy Ray's high-stakes thriller based on a true story.

I just downloaded a copy of 10,000BC.. its pretty crappy quality, but the story seems pretty good :-) and some very good special effects.. essentially a love story..

(I'll be hiring the dvd and copying it when it comes out :-)

Yes, 'No Country for Old Men' will be out tomorrow.  I will definitely be one of the first in line to rent it.

I saw "There will be blood"
I hated it, especially the music, or lack of music. well what they had for instead of music was this grating horrid noise. Almost throughout the whole film
There were only 2 good things about the film.
1- Daniels acting. yes he did deserve to win an oscar. He is a very talented actor.
2. The actual story which I found interesting, the way that they mined and dug for oil at the turn of the last century etc.

Otherwise its a terrible film.

I saw "Death at a Funeral", despite the title, it was a charming movie. I also saw a Japanese movie called "Gozu", the freakiest movie I have ever seen! It was disturbing in a way that I just couldn't look away.

I swear, I am soooooo tired of all these fucking dance movies they have been coming out with. No real storyline just folks dancing. If I want to see dancing, I can tune in to B.E.T.

You got served!

Got served what? It would be nice to get served a story line or some kind of plot. The dance movie storylines are so fucking predictable....

1. Boy comes or moves to a new town or starts college somewhere
2. Boy ends up at a party, sees a hoochie who belongs to someone else
3. Beef begins which leads to some type of dance off (the only good thing in the movie)
4.Hoochie rolls out with girl, well, that would be a twist if hoochie left with girl but I meant to say Boy
5. The End

The only one a bit different from that was the one Antonio Banderas did but I kind of liked that one though it had to be some kids from the hood. Why not some with silver spoons in their mouths, you know they can't dance to the beat. They're too busy getting pulled over for DUIs.

Remember this one?

I dont really like dance movies either. Aside from Footloose and Dirty dancing. But I'm fairly certain I watched this one at the movie theater. Back then it was one screen...And I think after the movie they had a break dance contest on stage. LOL

Ok, watched Beowulf last night.  SAVE YOUR MONEY!  It was a stinkin' cartoon.  Not worth it at all.

BUT....

"Martian Child" is a true must see.  It is such a wonderful movie.  Just don't watch it unless you have a box of kleenex.  By the end of the movie, hubby and i were both crying.  If you ever doubt wether you fit in on this crazy planet...go get this movie.

I loved the movie and so read the books because I could not wait to find out what will happen when the rest of the trillogy comes out.
An excellent read, but sort of tapered off to irritating and tedious by the 3rd book.
neverthe less I am pleased that I did read them all.

Uh, Mum, You didn't know Beowulf was an animation? I guess that would be the closest anyone would get to seeing Angelina Jolie in the buff. I haven't seen it yet but I have heard mixed reviews. I think when I do finally watch it, I am going to count how many times he says "I am Beowulf" since one review said that seem to be the catch phrase throughout the whole movie. Not sure if I would buy the dvd but will check it out when it hits ppv.

I had no idea it was animated.  It started and we looked and looked and thought - well, crap.  Think Shrek meets ancient England.  The story line was awful - not like the book.  The animation wasn't even 1st rate.  Instead of being intense, most of the time, it was just funny. I ended up falling asleep and hubby's returning it today without me finishing it. It's not even worth it.

I do highly recomment Martian Child with John Cusack.  I'm not a fan of his, but in this movie he is top rate.  It is beautifully written and well acted.  Really makes you think about "normal" and acceptance.  Rarely will we go buy a movie once we've rented it - but this one will definately be bought.

"And the Band Played On" is a good movie and I just bought "Bee Movie".  There are two movies that I'm anxious to see, at first I thought this one was way to late to do a movie but now I'm excited about it "Sex and the City - The Movie" and the other is the new Indiana Jones movie.

Summarization of Wanted:
Wesley Gibbon (James McAvoy) is just an ordinary guy, unaware that his long-lost father is one of the world's most notorious assassins. But when his father is killed, a mysterious associate named Sloan (Morgan Freeman) arrives, offering Wesley the chance to fill dad's shoes. Mentored by Sloan's deputy, Fox (Angelina Jolie), Wesley carries out the will of the mythological Fates, who see Wesley's targets in a magical loom.

Horton Hears a Who is worth seeing IF you like Seuss, good animation, well-cast voice talent AND a simple good vs evil, good wins tale. I do, I did.

I loved 30 days, and You, Jeromy and I seem to be opposite most critics in appreciating The Invasion.  Frankly I loved the whole comparison to prozac and such.

In other movie news to Horror Fans (and I assume Queen might enjoy this one) They are remaking The Birds - which I am not happy about, though I understand that Naomi Watts has the lead role so I am semi hopeful.

Oh, Win, you will LOVE Martian Child.  Just make sure you have plenty of tissue on hand.  The quote under my avitar is from the movie "Hystarical is the new calm."  The movie makes you think about what we consider "normal" and how wonderful it would be if we were all a little "abnormal".

Hoping to take the kids to see Horton next Tuesday afternoon - if it ever quits raining. >:(

Oh great. That means I'll have to deal with Billy trying to hide that he was emotionally touched by a movie and be a witness to his trying to act super manly to ineffectively disguise his watery eyes. LOL

OK we made it thru Martian Child with no tears shed. He pretty much got disinterested after 30 minutes and started fiddling with his paperwork.

The next movie for us will be September Dawn.

Description of September Dawn
More than 100 years before Sept. 11, 2001, another act of religious fanaticism claimed the lives of upwards of 120 men, women and children when a band of Mormon militiamen and Paiute Indians slaughtered a wagon train of westward-bound settlers. This tragic tale chronicles those events, juxtaposing a fictional love story and a fact-based account of the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre. Terence Stamp, Jon Voight, Lolita Davidovich and Dean Cain star.

Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k7kAbHgOyo

Then we will watch The Grapes of Wrath.

Description
Made in 1940. The film tells the story of the Joads, an Oklahoma family, who, after losing their farm during the Great Depression in the 1930s, become migrant workers and end up in California. The motion picture details their arduous journey across the United States as they travel to California in search for work and opportunities for the family members.

Or vice versa...

Did you like "Martian Child"?  We loved it!  We saw "September Dawn", too.  It was a good movie.  If you have time, watch the extras.  It explains a lot about what was going on sort of behind the scenes.  It helped the movie make a lot more scense.

I just watched 'No Country for Old Men' last night and must say, it's the best movie I've seen in two years.  I'm waiting for 'There Will Be Blood' to be released, though I heard it's not as good as 'NCfOM.'

I think I pretty much got my weekend lined up. I'll be watching American Gangster which I got only to glance at while my oldest sister went on to produce some interesting family trivia. She is the matriarch of our dysfunctional family... ;D And it would seem when Frank was doing his thing back in the day that my uncle use to work for him. She then went on to point out the things my uncle said he witnessed...Do I believe it? Who's to say my Uncle use to do some nefarious things back in the day.

After that I may move on to Fracture with Anthony Hopkins or that Zodiac movie they did last year. I also got that one with Jodie Foster in it, One Brave One or something.

American Gangster is a wondeful movie!  We rented some movies today: Snow Buddies, for the kids.  Land of Elah, Attonement, and (fanfare) Highlander - the Source with none other than Mr. Adrien Paul himself!  I am a HUGE Highlander fan.  I hope I'm not disappointed.

I am a fan of Highlander too since Connor was around but the last Highlander movie, The Source was pure garbage to me. I wanted to smack Adrian Paul for doing it. To me, it was like they just threw it together just to try to please us Highlander fans. I won't tell the movie, Mum but I think you will be disappointed.

oh,no!  I guess I'll watch it tonight with a box of kleenex.   :'( :'( :'(

Atonement wasn't as good as everyone said.  The 1st 45 mins. was good.  The next 45mins was like watching my grass grow.  The last few minutes was not too bad and explained a lot.  So, watch the beginning...fast forward until the little sister shows up in a nurse's outfit..then hit start again.  The stuff you miss in the middle won't make a difference.

I know it's not a movie technically, but I'm getting hooked on Showtime's The Tudors (but only because I've fallen madly in love with Henry Cavill and they show him completely naked at time.

It's good to see someone else is into The Tudors. I love that show and can't wait for the new episode tomorrow night. Henry Cavill is hot but I'm hooked on Jonathan Rhys______, I can't remember his last name. You know, the one who plays Henry VIII. He's so hot!!!!

It's Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  I actually find him slightly annoying.  There's simply no comparison to the HAWTness that is Henry.  None.  And Jonathan has that whiny voice.  Henry's is all man, and with a nice bit of carpet on his chest now that he's gotten older.  I paid him no mind when he was a young twink.

Well, I have rented 'American Gangster' and will be watching it in a few minutes.  I hope it was worth the rent; I do like Denzel Washington and thought he did a fine job in 'Hurricane.'  Now, that's a move I'd like to own.

I thought it was a good movie actually though a bit long. I watched the unrated version. Denzel is just sexy anyhow. And there are a lot of famous actors in it like Cuba Gooding Jr., Clarence Williams III, Ruby Dee, Tip Harris aka TI the rapper, Common, another rapper, RZA a rapper from WuTang Clan, DJ Squalls and thise are just a few that I can think of off the top of my head.

Mum-- Did you like the Highlander movie?

Philly-- I still think Jonathan is sexy as hell as is Henry. Now at least I have someone to talk with about The Tudors. I am anxiously waiting....
