Went to my doctors's office this morning, for my three month blood tests...He always has some interesting reading material on the coffee table !!
Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash with Wylie Post in 1935, was probably the greatest political sage this country has known. Enjoy the following :
1. Never slap a man chewing tobacco.
2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
3. There are two theories with arguing with a woman...neither works.
4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
5. Always drink upstream from the herd.
6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
7. The quickest way to double your money, is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
8. There are three kinds of men : The ones that learn by reading. The few that learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence, and find out for themselves.
9. Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.
10. If you're riding ahead of the herd, take a look back once in a while, and make sure it's still there.
11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin it back.
12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral ; When your full of bull , keep your mouth shut.
ABOUT GROWING OLDER
First-- Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
Second--- The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Third-- -- Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "WHY" I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Forth----- When your dissatisfied and would like to go back in youth, think of Algebra,
Fifth---- You know your getting old, when everything dries up or leaks.
Sixth----I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
Seventh---- One of the many things that no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.
Eight---- Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
Tenth---- Long ago when men when men beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it's called golf.
And finally----If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.

I love Will Rogers.
I especially liked these:
eventh---- One of the many things that no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.
Eight---- Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
He made absolute sense and put people in their place without ticking them off. Now that's talent.
HUGS,
Mark

Having reached the semi - official "old" category ( Medicare recipient) I can confirm virtually all the Will Rogers comments except "peeing on the electric fence" haven't tried that one...

I love the Will Rogers post! Common sense aplenty! Now this is something to rap about. Add a fierce beat and I will blast it from my sound system.

Jean Genet said : "you know you're getting old when the cops start looking young.)
Oscar Wilde's final words: As Oscar lay dying, penniless in a French hotel, he looked around at the room and said:
'My wall paper and I are in a battle to the death, one or the other must go'.

Her tutor said to Billie Dawn in BORN YESTERDAY, "You have a point. It's an idiotic one, but you do have a point."
Bear, I am very openminded. I have cruised cops during demos. It's not about age. I just regard it as "outreach."
Since Will Rogers was famous for saying he "never met a man he didn't like," I am just following his wisdom. I will say I'm not quite aligned with that thought of his, but I'm working on it.

I really take this thread as a sign. Seriously, I really had no clue on who Will Rogers was but for some reason I stopped in to read it. After reading it, I am kind of blown away because most of the things he said I definitely agree with and when it came to the part about old age, I definitely could relate to. I have been pondering on a bit of them too before even seeing this thread. Thanks for posting it.

I especially like the line about "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." Very good advice for me. Thanks, Ray for putting these on here.
