Title: hiv or hiv related ocd?
Post by: sharma32 on September 08, 2006, 05:40:09 pm
hello guys,
thought i'd tell you guys how scared I am, i have had two encounters where i feel i have put myself at some risk:
- i came into contact with small wet blood on someones mobilephone while i was using it at a HIV TESTING CLINIC very small amounts must i add. the blood had touched a cut on my finger which was a couple of hours old.
- I was deep kissing a girl i met at a club whos status is unknown i dnt know where she is now, i didnt have any cuts in my mouth though.

my questions are
a) what is the chance of me contracting HIV in these manners, if not why?
b) I have developed enlarged lymph nodes in my kneck and which i have never felt before although my doc said it not related to that i find it difficult to believe

I am extrememly scared as i am going to university to study medicine and i need to keep a clear head this does not help!
thanks a lot guys..

No risk what so ever. If you have OCD, take your concerns to your therapist.

Sharma,

Read our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) to learn how HIV is and is not transmitted.

It might come in handy when you're at University.

Still no worry. I don't care if you two made blood brothers of each other. You didn't have a risk.

The finger thing was absolutely not a risk. This is one of those WHAT IF events that people unnecessarily drive themselves nuts over.

Even IF the person you are concerned about is HIV+ and even IF HIV+ blood was pouring out, (which it wasn't) and if the wound was fresh and wide open, (which it wasn't because it had happened hours before which meant the natural process of healing was already closing it up and covering it over even if you couldn't see it), and if if if.....

Nicks, cuts, scratches and more are the stuff of daily life. Transmission theoretically COULD happen that way. But in the real world of HIV the reality is it doesn't happen. No kidding.

Kissing is not and never has been a means of transmission even if she had a bloody tongue shoved into your mouth. More no kidding.

If you are having troubling symptoms you should discuss them with your doctor. They are not in any way HIV specific and symptoms are never the way to know about HIV when you have had a real risk -- which you haven't. There's no need for testing nor for further concern. NO KIDDING.

Cheers,

o sorry one last thing is, if the blood was outside the body for a few minutes, it would have died right? this is a question i am just curious about, if so how long does it take?

HIV related OCD.....(to answer your original question)  Please tell me you're a "pre-med" student and haven't actually been through any course work yet. Stop focusing on this non-issue and start studying if you really plan on learning medicine, you've got a lot of work ahead of you!
