Title: WTF? with all these Prices
Post by: denb45 on March 27, 2011, 03:02:04 pm
The price of Gas versus Printer Ink

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....

You will be really shocked by the last one!
(At least, I was...)

Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source

(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?

So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...............
(you won't believe it....but it is true........)
$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

And - If you don't read all of this
your muffler will fall off!!

Okay, your muffler won't really fall off...but, you might run out of toilet paper  ;D

I read part of those prices and shit my pants -
and then, to top it off, I realized after shitting my pants, that I didn't have any toilet paper  - so, I went out to the car to drive to the store and get some and my muffler fell off ---
go figure ---

I probably should have read the whole thing. ::)

Dude, that is off the charts!  What kind of milk are you buying?  You can get that stuff around here for a little less than 3 bucks/gallon.

I live across the lake from Evian, France.  I think the water shipped around the world really does come from there, by the way. Though it's owned by Nestle if you look at the fine print.  Biggest food company in the world and not so eco friendly as we know.  If you live in or around Evian, you get it for free cause it runs out of a public fountain where you can fill up all you want.

I think the movement against bottled water is great. What a colossal ecological waste, plastic, shipping it, all those wasted bottles etc. etc.  Most places have pretty good tap water and it tastes great and its fresh.

Switzerland has a lot of water, it runs non-stop out of fountains in many towns and you can drink it.

If I buy bottled water for some reason I try to get it from the most local bottling company.  At least it hasn't wasted tons of energy shipping it.

The Swiss post has a side business - they'll refill your ink cartridges for cheap. Also, people should buy it generic, online.

No-name store brand champagne is 15-20 bucks a bottle.

There's other good bubbly from non-champagne regions in France for only 10 bucks. Totally delicious.  So I guess you can have 2 buck bottles of coke or a bottle of champagne for 2x or 3x the price.  Funny.

Beer is cheap. Great store brands for 50 cents to a dollar - 50cl cans.

Some liquids still seem like a pretty good buy, all things considered.

I think its the carbon footprint that we should also consider.  Off season vegetables and fruits shipped around the world. They're often cheap but... Aren't we all paying for that sooner or later when the oil runs out cause we needed strawberries and asparagus all year round?

Milk here is about $2.24 a gallon.  And I use a Brita pitcher, which I replace the filter in every two months, and it's $!5 for 3 filters.  So, that's the cost of my water.  I fill up a water bottle and take it to work with me, so I don't buy plastic water bottles.

I will NEVER give up my coffee no matter how expensive it gets.  Every morning I have 4, maybe 5 mugs of the good stuff.  I may not do the designer clothes anymore but I insist on 'top shelf' coffee that is freshly ground then brewed.  Not the flavored stuff... just top of the line Colombian, Brazilian, or Jamaican.  Costa Rican is also good.

I would kill, destroy, and eliminate anything that gets in the way of my morning coffee fix!!!  LOL..just kidding.

I did let myself run out of it once (not on purpose) and when I woke up... and I wake up way early most of the time, I had to get in the car and go get some beans from the 24 hour PigglyWiggly.  I have this thing about putting evaporated milk in it too.  High maintenance coffee drinker here but everything else I usually encounter during my day I can deal with w/o getting too anxious about.

I couldn't tell you the price of a gallon of gas if you asked me.

Wasn't it the first President Bush who got into trouble for not knowing how much gas costs?  Or, was it a gallon of milk??

I know it isn't popular to say, but when you think all that it takes to get oil out of the ground, shipped, refined, and then shipped to stations (not to mention all the trouble oil causes in the world), then the price of gas doesn't seem that bad.  I was just going through pix from 1996 and happened to get a gas station sign in the pic.  It said, "$1.76/gal".  When you think about how much food, natural gas, electricity, cable, etc has gone up since 1996, $3.55/gal here doesn't sound like that much out of line with everything else.  People in Europe pay $5-$6/gal, right?

I've kept my gas and electric bills going back 10 years.  10 years ago, I paid around $120/mth for both electric and gas.  Now, in the same home, it is $250/mth.  Back then, I could leave all my outdoor Christmas lights on from dusk to dawn.  Now, even with most being LED, I have to set them on a 4 hour timer, or the bill will be $400.

Truth. I don't buy bottled water unless I have to, and I keep empty bottles in my car to refill at a water fountain whenever I'm out there. Most tap water in the US is pretty good and we have a huge water filter/softener at the side of this house, plus a water filter underneath the sink that goes out to a special faucet next to the regular one. Good enough for me.

Also, I may add, New York City has the best tap water ever. It's clean and cold. :D

I do have to admit that I don't always drink just Coke. I have three water bottles, and two that snap onto my bike, that I refill and drink out of when I'm out doing work around the property.

I also have 2 24oz Coke bottles that I refill from the 2-liter bottles. I can't see wasting all that plastic, much less paying a buck 79 for 24 oz when I'm paying only a buck 25 for 68 oz.

My theory is that it started when our parents started forcing us to eat everything on our plate - full or not - before we could even leave the table. That spawned a whole generation of overeaters, which in turn created their own. People started demanding more and more on their plates. I pretty much can't go out to a restaurant now without coming home with a doggy bag and that's saying something 'cause I'm a husky guy who eats a bit more than I should. o_O

I can understand that a huge container adds up to cheaper unit price, but should the huge container itself be cheaper than the small one?

I remember always just buying a quarter pound and then sitting on it!  That sure made the cost/oz easier to justify.

Sams Club, Costco, and all the like are the result of that American need to buy and consume in bulk.  There is no portion control for most here.  I am guilty of that myself.

Well yeah, obese people always like to say this.  Take a room of 100 obese (mind you, I'm not talking folks that are 10 lbs. overweight) and you might find one that has an issue of genetics.

It's portion size at meals, eating out a lot, incessant snacking with processed foods in between the oversized meals, and an extreme lack of exercise because people drive everywhere because they live in suburban environments.

I look back on this time last year (getting over PCP and just starting on Atripla) and at that time I was way too thin.  I remember standing at the kitchen sink with my 501s on and reached up to get something out of the cabinet above, down to the floor my pants went in one fell swoop.  That aint gonna happen today with the little bit of belly that I have these days and I like having it when compared to being too thin.

for the last 10 yrs while I've worked in the backyard and played in the pool, I noticed that I only see the neighborhood children for about 4 weeks. Every day for two weeks after school releases for the summer, those little buggers are everywhere - biking, running, playing, etc. Then I don't see a soul for the rest of summer. When school starts back, I see the kids out again every afternoon for about two weeks. If it wasn't for those weeks and the yellow buses every day, I'd wonder if people were even still having children.

:D My otherhalf says I'm a bear, but he's more of a bear than me, he has furr all over his body, I don't, but yet in the gay bear community I'm still a bear to them, so, hey it is what it is James, don't over think the
concept dear  :-*

Oh come on -- If a guy is that hairy but instead of being 30 lbs. overweight is a fit weight you don't call him a bear.  The fact remains, as I began the discussion, is that there's been an eroticization of FAT in the gay community, one that didn't exist 20 years ago.  They were just called fat, hairy men.  It's like straight men into Chubby Porn ;D  Go buy a bag of Doritoes and masturbate next time.

I'm 5'9" and 180. Technically overweight. The most I have ever weighed is 189. Back in 2002 I dropped down to 135. After an endoscopy, colonoscopy and all kinds of tests the doctors decided it was HIV itself affecting my ability to absorb food. Combined with my lipoatrophy I looked horrible and strangers were asking what was wrong with me. I changed HIV meds and the weight started to slowly come back.

If I didn't have lipo I would agree, but mine is extreme on my legs and ass so NO weight disperses there, it all goes in my trunk area so it looks off balance.  Not a lot because I'm not actually fat, but it makes me look fatter than I am, if that makes sense.

I'm in my late 40s and I always understood "bear" means: hairy guy with some flesh, at least, or fat. At least a belly. Could be a barrel chest and massive muscles or could be fat.

And yes, they are eroticized that's the point!!!

Bears existed in the 80's that's for sure. In limited numbers. It seems to me that the oldstyle 3 basic body types - ectomorph (skinny), mesomorph (muscly), endomorph (fatty) - are useful enough.

Seems to me that skinny and muscly have always been valued and eroticised, in the 70's 80's and on up to now.  That Bears came into their own in the 90's and the 00's is a good development.  Everyone should have the opportunity to be considered sexy and desireable, what's wrong with that?

I get the point that obesity is a health issue and being considered sexy (cause a bear) is a bad way to justify a health issue.  But not all bears are wallowing in their bearness nor being gluttons to the honey pot in order to be hot.

I certainly know enough men who, after a certain, age, starve themselves to retain the skinny "ephebe" look.
It doesn't really fool ANYONE except each other and their silly fetishization of thinness - cause it looks "young".
("I still fit into my 28's" -- oh please barbara don't you have anything else to offer at 45 years old!)

And certainly others who through steroids and constant bodybuilding retain the semblance of a young footballer's mass and power.

So those can ALSO be unhealthy lifestyles resulting in somewhat still eroticised images.

So in the end, nobody wants to promote obesity, but once someone is a fatty, thank god some other people find this attractive and hot.

The only people calling "Bears" an excuse for sloth or obesity are probably ectomorphs or mesomorphs who have sour grapes, or don't want to share the spotlight. Sour grapes because bears can achieve hotness much easier than others can achieve slim youthfulness or hot hunkiness, and bears can maintain it longer.  I'm not a bear but I think its a VERY clever and positive spin on things by the bears.

On that note:  Gymrats pic IS a bear.  Miss P - your pic is of a stud - a hairy mesomorph.  Nothing bear there.

Call a fatty a fatty if thats your take on it, but don't begrudge a bear his hot-factor.  I get the point that fat can be unhealthy.  i said so.

But everyone has a right to be considered desirable and to feel desireable.  All I'm saying is that its too different points.

Lord knows both heteros and homos, men and women, suffer enough from the tyranny of standards of beauty.

I have a very "Rubenesque" friend who is considered the bombe by Dominican men.  Good for her!  Snotty white Wall Street sharks look right through her.

Meech-
I would not ever be so rude or cruel as to call someone a name like "fatty" Never have and never will. For the record, I grew up a very fat kid, and didn't really lose any wieght until well into high school. Got shit ALL the time for being fat too, I know what it's like, I've been there, and remember very well what it feels like... My father, whom I love very much, now weighs well in excess of 500 pounds. It bothers me that he's so heavy due to the health factors. I would never ridicule him for it, and I have stopped speaking to my brother partly because that's all he ever does.
Finally, my partner is a Bear, and is very hot. I agree completely with Dennis that I prefer there be something to hold onto.
Please stop putting words into other people's mouths.

I was referring to my reading of Miss P's references to FAT, cause I thought she was implying that bears (of the fat variety) are FAT first and foremost, and thus do they deserve their current crest of hotness.

Maybe I misread that.

He's not the only one.  I have a couple of friends (aging thin guys) who are always cutting on the bear identity, bear nites in discos, etc etc, incredulous that bears achieved a hotness moment in the gay zeitgeist.

To each his own.
