Title: Supplements: The Downside
Post by: bear60 on January 18, 2008, 02:47:52 pm
Those of us who seem to be waiting with baited breath for new scientific studies to be done to prove that supplements indeed boost the immune sytem, increase CD4cells, improve liver function and lower cholesterol have apparently overlooked the downside of scientific proof.
Lab rats.  Yes, those poor caged animals are fed supplements and then are killed so that scientists can analyse their little livers and tissues to see if there really was a change that took place.  The more experiments the more animals die.
Now frankly it matters to me that science tries to find cures and treatments.  But I am trying hard to find it justifiable that animals die for Vitamin C. or for that matter ...a better wrinkle cream.

I'm against animal testing too but these are done not for supplements alone. It's the whole thing about science and a cure, medications, vaccine, yada yada yada. Many people dun like to see animals being killed as prey on Animal Planet but have no hesitation gobbling 2 upsized Mac Burgers over the next ad break. Tough issues with no easy compromise yet. We'll get there, you'll see. Meanwhile pray for our little animal friends who gave their lives for mankind and be kinder to your pets and all living things in general. It's a good start. :)
