Concerned about labs

Hey there...

New here.  Tested poz 3 weeks ago.  Went to see an HIV speciailist.  VL came back at 4,000 but CD4 came back at 201 at 25%.  I'm concerned as the CD4 seems low when the VL is also low.  The doc is rerunning the labs and said he will probably start me on meds when he sees me next (depending on outcome of labs).

Is this a concern for future treatment/prognosis?  Can i expect the CD4 to go up after treatment?

Hi Madazzaman,

sorry you had to join us really, but please be most welcome.

I cannot give you much advice about your results but, though sometimes slow, changes to your CD4's (going up) normaly occur once under treatment.

I am thinking that you may ask the moderators to move your post to the "just tested" area where you might get more answers more rapidly.

Again, be most welcome here. It is a great place with many helpful and caring people, from all over the world, who will give you good advice and support. It also has a few dark corners where some occasionaly trash each other but be not afraid, it is only verbal and a great feature in such cases is the "ignore" button.

Hmmm... (hello btw)

CD4 about 200 and CD4% of 25% is a mismatch.  You would expect a CD4% of about 13% at that count.  So get a new count. CD4 count is very variable by time of day etc etc.

Your viral load is weedy 

Good luck, and yes your CD4 count will most likely go up on treatment.
