I already receive SSDI and....
« on: October 07, 2011, 12:47:26 pm »
was working part time last year at my kids school.

I had to quit because I need to homeschool them(long story) and they sent me a thing that I could collect un-employment?  I don't think I should because I am not looking for a job right now.  Right?

I am having to get 3some tested for learning disabilities and I have been  told that most likely I can file for disability for them.  I already get money each month in their names under my work history.  Does anyone know how this works? The tests that my insurance does not cover are big bucks.

Any guidance is appreciated!!

Thanks, Snow

  Snow,

My first wife had 3 kids that had learning disabilities, and she did receive disability funds monthly.  I called her and asked her some questions regarding your matter.  She said you can start the process on-line through social security.  You would have to do a claim for each one, of course, and would need their SS#.  Also, you would need any school records indicating that they have a learning disability, and documentation for any medical problems they may have would help also in the consideration process.  All her kids are grown now and lead successful lives, one is even enrolled in Middlesex College in England, so while this is an obstacle... they can overcome it.  My ex-wife said if you need any more info on the matter she would welcome a phone call to talk about it.  She lives in Florida so I don't know your long distance phone ability but I could have her call you if it is a problem.

I don't know, but the social security website might be forthcoming with this information as well.  If you need the phone number you know how to contact me.

Thanks, Skeeb!

I appreciate you doing that.  I am getting them neuro-psych tested in Jan and will get the results at the end of Feb.  They repeated first grade and still didn't catch up so I am trying to get them up to speed by doing first again here at home.  I suppose their IEP's could be used for documentation.  Maybe I will get in touch with her closer to testing date.  Thank you again!! :)  I REALLY appreciate it :)
