Just Diagnosed? – Join a U of MN Study

Greetings,

I’m the project coordinator for the Positive Internet Study (PINTS) at the University of Minnesota.  PINTS is a telephone-based study to understand the needs of people recently diagnosed with HIV.  We hope to use these findings to help improve online resources for persons newly diagnosed.  If eligible, you’ll receive $50 for your time.

Currently we are looking for heterosexual men and women, recently diagnosed HIV-positive, and living in the US, to take part in one-on-one phone interviews.

What else you need to know:
•   You must be 18 years or older and HIV+ to participate.
•   Before we can enroll you in the study you’ll be asked to take a quick 5-minute phone survey to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria.  Unfortunately, I’m not permitted to share the specific criteria (sorry).
•   If eligible, the full interview can be scheduled at your convenience on weekdays or weekends.
•   Interviews take between 45 and 60 minutes.

generally people won't participate in studies if there isn't a worthy incentive.

Indeed. A small gratuity is often paid to participants in research studies and it is appropriate. It can assist people on low incomes and is useful for defraying the costs (such as transport) that people incur.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in paying people to participate in research.
