question about generic 3 in 1 pill: mylan TDF/3TC/EFV
« on: April 13, 2013, 07:27:04 am »
Hi all,

I have questions about generic 3 in 1 pill produced by company MyLan.com that would like to hear from you guys if possible.

- the pill is free, given by government in my country.
- its content is TDF: 300mg, EFV: 600mg, 3TC: 300mg.
- I have been on it for about 1 year. Result from last oct test is: UD, CD4=550 (increased from 350 about 1 year ago). I take it in the morning, no side effect.

Recently I heard from a friend who is also a doctor that 3TC may not be good enough for taking once per day due to its half life is short. His recommendation is changing to a combination that has TFC instead of 3TC.

So my questions are:
- is there anyone here taking same combination as mine and what is the result?
- what do you think about my friend's comment above?

thanks in advanced,
butpoz

Are you confuse TFC with FTC (Emtricitabine)?

Lamivudine 3TC is an old NRTI that most developed country don't use anymore, its get replace by FTC which is more potent and have less side effect.

Currently first line treatment in china is EFV+3TC+TDF,I also heard people in south Africa is having the same combination...
As an Chinese citizen , I decided put myself on EFV+FTC+TDF..I got FTC+TDF in Thailand ...as the thai doctor said ,FTC stays bit of longer than 3TC in the blood, and in long term , FTC have lower risk raise side effect to liver and kidney...But these two combination dosent have significant difference ...I know people in china took 3TC is doing fine...

Hey, I receive FTC - TDF - EFV from the same laboratory (Mylan), Iīm in Ecuador, my hospital change regularly our pills brand, sometimes I receive triterapia in one pill, sometimes in two (in this case, Efavirez is separated), I also got VIRADAY by my own.

Never noticed any difference between these differents solutions (all produce this typical dizzyness which comes with EFV), my numbers are great.  I think you should not be worried with the brand.

About 3TC, no idea, I heard that they were using this combo in Colombia, but not sure...

There are some info form OMS (WHO?), if you can read spanish (sorry, I havenīt found it in English) in the following link, check page 40.  3TC - EFV - TDF is described as a first line treatment and efficient.

3TC is fine once a day, so what is the issue? It's commonly used in England (with abacavir mainly)
