Guys,

Please try your hardest to answer this question while resisting your urge to reach through your monitors and slap me. I know you answer it multiple times per day.

I know you advise that performing oral sex on a man is zero risk, but I was wondering if (bad) receding gum lines increase the risk at all. On the bottom of my mouth, they are receding to the point of regular, but not constant, bleeding. I also have a broken tooth on the top, rear portion of my mouth.

I took no ejaculate in my mouth, and believe there was no precum. Very little at most I guess. Do any of these circumstances create a risk?

I guess people who ask this question tend to make too much of the incidents because when it is the biggest risk you take, it seems riskier than it is.

As you may already know your saliva contains over a dozen elements and proteins which very effectively prevent the transmission of viable HIV.

Ongoing longterm studies of sero-discordant couples, both gay and straight, have recorded lots of mutual unprotected oral sex and only protected vaginal and anal intercourse. To date not a single sero-negative partner has become infected.

Nothing in the way of details you have noted makes me consider you to have been at risk for transmission. I don't see testing to be necessary unless you need the inevitable negative result just for your own tranquility.

Just make sure that you always use condoms for intercourse and you will be well protected against the sexual transmission of HIV.

I know this probably seems like a dumb question, but is inflamed gums a sympton of ARS?

worried,

Inflamed gums are not a sign of hiv, it's a sign of gingivitis. See your dentist.

And no, you were not at risk.

Last post, and a quick one,

Ann, you're an angel. By far the most compassionate and patient of the respondents in here. Just wanted to say thanks not just for the response here in my thread, but the ones I've read in others. Thanks.

Worried,

You're welcome.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

worried,

Of course you wanted us to be right. I mean, you don't really want hiv, do you?

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

Bottomed for a Transexual CSW for one insertion, with condom
« Reply #9 on: July 20, 2011, 01:29:25 pm »
Well, my question is exactly what my subject is: I bottomed for a Transexual CSW for one (maybe) insertion, with a condom on the worker. I think I'm just being ridiculously over anxious, but just wanted to confirm there was no risk.

Condoms provide very effective protection no matter whom are you are with, professional or civilian. As long as the insertive partner is always wearing a condom during vaginal or anal intercourse, you will be well protected.

You are worrying needlessly. Keep using condoms for intercourse.

There is no need for HIV testing over this incident.

Thanks Andy.

Since that experience, I keep running through the scenario in my head. Maybe the condom broke when he tried to insert, maybe he didn't tell me, maybe a million things happened that in reality I know didn't. For some reason I can't really suppress my concerns about it, as unrealistic as I know they are.

What ifs are a slippery slope to get on to. If the condom had broken it would have been very apparent because it would have looked like a hoop with fringe on the guy's penis.

There's really nothing we can say here. Doubts and fears are not facts. And the facts as you reported them indicate you were not at risk. You can always get tested if you want to just to relieve your mind. It's a waste of resources just to get the inevitable negative result, but that is up to you.

Ann's comment still applies. As you go forward in your life you need to apply what has been said to you before. Basically it's to use a condom everytime for intercourse and you will be well protected. It's not complicated.

I have another question for you guys. Three weeks ago I bottomed with a condom for a transexual CSW. I'm fairly certain he did not ejaculate, and when he pulled out the condom was still on. Did i have an exposure? Is there any chance a part of the condom I could not see broke? I'm asking because I'm currently experiencing a fever, headache, and general flu like symptoms.

A condom provides adequate protection against HIV. You were not at risk.
"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

You were not at risk. If the condom had failed in any way it would have been very visible to the eye. It's not about tiny holes as people sometimes fear. When a condom fails it's quite obvious. The whole thing goes and it ends up looking like a hoop with fringe on the penis of the wearer.

You are worrying needlessly. Get on with your life.

Thanks for the answer Andy.

I guess the only reason I'm really worried about it is the sickness I had almost three weeks to the day after the experience. I had a fever over 103 degrees, chills, headaches... I never developed a rash or had swollen lymph nodes, but I find myself worrying just the same.

Is there any other way during this encounter that I could have contracted HIV?

Worried,

Unless you had unprotected intercourse, then no, you were not at risk. As you have been told, a broken condom is obvious so that's not an issue either.

It's flu season. If you continue to feel unwell, see a doctor.

You only need testing if it's part of a regular, routine sexual health check up - something you should be doing at least once a year.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER PROTECTED ANAL OR VAGINAL INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
