Just want to ease my anxiety...please help/give advice
« on: July 26, 2013, 01:39:25 pm »
After reading this forum for a bit it seems as though there are more than a few people like me, who are terrible worried about contracting HIV even after low-risk behavior. So, I'm seeking to ease my worried mind, or, of course, justify my fears.

Here's my story.

Between the end of February (~20) to the beginning/middle of March 2013, I was seeing a girl I had met online. She told me that she didn't have any STIs, but I didn't actually go with her to get tested. Why I was a little bit concerned was that she told me sex was painful for her, that she had had some operation (?) done by an OBGYN, and that we had to wait until the 26th to have sex. We ended up sleeping together a few days before then.

We slept together twice one night, and then a few more times over the next two weeks. I used a condom every time, and it didn't break. I did go down on her for about 1-2 minutes during one of those nights, and it was unprotected oral sex. I remember having a small cut on my lip when I did so, but it wasn't fresh.

After that, I stopped seeing her.

Around mid-May (around 8-9 weeks at the very least since I had slept with this girl), one of my cervical lymph nodes swelled up and I had a sore throat. I went to the doctor and was put on antibiotics for strep throat; I also had blood work done for STIs. A week later, I broke out in hives and was told I actually had blood-test confirmed mono. All STIs had come back negative.

I also got a rapid test around 11 weeks (at the very least) and it came back negative.

I guess why I'm worried is that now it's two months later and my lypmh nodes are still swollen, and I thought mono was supposed to go away by now. I'm worried that it's something else.

Is there any way I was at risk with this girl? I guess I'm just concerned because she said she had to wait until a certain date to have sex, and I don't know if she was telling the truth about why.

Billy, the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. You used condoms everytime with this partner. Perfect. You were well protected.

Nothing you are reporting symptomatically is in anyway HIV specific. You need to discuss any symptoms you are concerned about with a doctor. I don't see any science-based reason to think HIV is your problem nor is there any need for further HIV testing.
