We're nearing the four-month mark prior to the gathering.  I thought it would be helpful to start this thread and encourage everyone to post their arrival and departure dates and times.  Since posts cannot be edited anymore after 48 hours, we're going to have to ask the help of the moderators to edit this post for updates.  So let’s start the ball rolling...

To all midday arrivals Th, 13th/ SFO: Will be in touch with those arriving around the same time as me. We could catch the train into SF as group. Embark a BART train at airport terminals (northbound/) into the city. BART has a stop at Powell St. & Market. Next to Powell Hotel. Convenient, eh?

Arrive on the 10th of Sept..SF International airport at 12.25pm

Depart on the 18th..SF International at 4.10pm.

To catch bart from the airport, take the bart bus ($3.00 no change given - have exact fare) and then take the train toward Millbrae ($4.50 - $6.50 depending where in the city you get off the bus).

I will depart JFK in NY Thursday, 9/13 at 11:30 AM and arrive at SFO 2:30 PM on American Airlines and will stay until Monday, 9/24 and leave at 1:30 PM and arrive in NY at 10 PM.  I will spend some extra time to be with my friend Joe and his brother and friends and anyone else who lives out there who may want to extend our time together.

Hi Family,

Thom and I have booked our flights.  Arriving on Wed, 9/12 @ 1:32pm on NW221.  Departing on Tues, 9/18 @ 8:45am on NW222 (both SFO).

We will book our hotel when in-house reservations are open on Monday morning.

We are so looking forward to renewing our friendships with folks from the last two AMGs and are anxious to meet all the new members of this fantastic group.  We believe that this group is the first of it's kind in the world.  We all have so much to learn from and share with each other.  For many of us this will be the third year in a row that we have been able to get together.  For us this is the high point of our year.

For those of you who don't know us, Thom and I are a couple, together for 27 years.  I am positive, Thom is negative.  We were married at last year's AMG in Montreal.  I fact we share a anniversary with another AMG couple.

We look forward to being part of the meeting party, as is the tradition, on the sidewalk outside the hotel to welcome each and everyone of you in September.

Well...give RAB some credit for "persuading" me to join the group (if you simply must know....he bought me off with some bourbon,)  I am in a wedding on Friday, Sept. 14, so I can't fly out until early Saturday morning.  Nevertheless, the tickets are bought and I will be there by lunch time on Saturday!  I am very excited about being with the group again.  It was killing me that it looked like it would not work out.

Here are my arrangements:

Arrive   Saturday, Sept. 15  United 7833/842 into SFO at 10:22 a.m.  I will get to the hotel as quickly as possible!

Depart  Tuesday, Sept. 18   United 158/5992 from SFO at 11:20 p.m. This is my first attempt at a "red-eye" in ten years.

I am getting ready to make my hotel reservations online at the Powell.  I have looked twice and cannot figure out how to tell them "online" that I am with the AMG group.  If anyone has already figured that out (or if I simply need to use the hopelessly old-fashioned telephone,) I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks to all for encouraging me to come, even though it will be a bit late.  (At the risk of being tawdry, coming late is HIGHLY unusual for me!)  Egads...talk about TMI!  I will quit before I eliminate what little is left of my good character.   :)

Truly excited about AMG '08!  Any other "fence sitters" reading this....make the plunge, you won't regret it!

Only my 2nd time to the US. The flight I have my eye on goes via Chicago. Can anyone tell me, is an hour and a half enough time to get through customs and from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1 for the transfer flight? Or should I give myself more time? There are plenty of different flights to choose from on Sept 13 for this route, but it means the difference between 90 mins and 3 and a half hours (!) between transfers. Also the difference between arriving in SF at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. I will only be bringing a carry on bag, so won't be checking in anything.

I checked the Chicago Airport OHARE web page and it says, "...Connection Times Intl-Intl: 90mins, Dom-Intl: 75mins, Dom-Dom: 50mins...."  It doesn't say anything about Intl-Dom, does it?  If the connecting flight is a domestic carrier then that means you'll be going through customs in Chicago.  Since you only have carry-on, I think 90 minutes is certainly sufficient.  But if you're coming from London, why not take a non-stop?  Fewer hassles.

So far I counted 18 are attending this years AMG07 that went to last years AMG. So what gives with the rest. Believe me you don't know what you will be missing if you back out and don't attend there is alot of fun at these gatherings. We had over 50 that went last year. It would be nice to see at least a higher number going this year. :-*

Waiting around the airport to meet up with other people whose planes may or not be arriving at their scheduled time strikes me as a waste of time. Just get on BART and be on your way to the hotel. Arrange to meet up at the hotel. Much better than hanging around the airport.

BART trains leave from SFO about every 20 minutes. The trip from SFO to the Powell Street station takes 30 minutes.  At the Powell Street station, take the exit marked Hallidie Plaza, and you're literally steps away from the front door of the hotel.

Although the official address of the hotel is 28 Cyril Magnin Street, the main entrance to the hotel is actually at 17 Powell Street. The entry is kind of non-descript. It's in the same building as the store Sephora. The Cyril Magnin address is the back entrance to the hotel, and it's for the benefit of taxis and delivery trucks, since the first block of Powell Street is closed to vehicles other than cable cars.

At least this year arriving at the airport will be nothing like it was when we had to go through customs in Montreal. >:( >:(

Landed in Montreal and took over an hour to get through customs, and the people oh my god were so fucking rude. And poor Alanbama lost his luggage and that was another hour wait. Landed at 5:04pm got at the hotel at 7:30PM.

Alaska changed my flight, makes me stop at los angeles for 2 hours, and arrive at 6pm!!!!!!  :o :o :o :o :o :o I would take the same amount of time driving from san diego!!

lol well it turns out that Alaska has removed their nonstop sd->sfo flight, so they have given me a full refund, and I found a cheaper flight ($30 cheaper!) with united, so here is my new info:

Although I can understand that someone flying in from the U.K. would be reluctant to take BART to the hotel, BART is actually especially easy for those arriving at the International Terminal. The BART station is directly connected to the International Terminal, so you don't even have to take the five-minute ride on the "AirTrain" to get to BART. If traffic is bad (which it often is), BART may actually be faster than a taxi. SFO is the first stop on the BART line, so you're guaranteed your choice of seats and won't have to fight crowds. The BART trains depart every 15 minutes; the destination sign on the platform will say "Dublin/Pleasanton."

A taxi will cost about $45 and perhaps $50 if you get caught in traffic. Take BART! It costs just $5.15, and the hotel is just a 30-second walk from the Powell Street BART station. Use the money you save to treat yourself or a newfound friend to a nice dinner.

By the way, those door-to-door shuttles (like SuperShuttle) that hang around outside the terminal are a big pain. They're cheaper than a taxi, but you have to wait around until they fill up the van, and they could wind up running all over town dropping off other passengers before they get you to the hotel.

Rich's offer to give people a ride from the airport is generous, but I wouldn't recommend waiting around very long to take advantage of such a ride. You could make it to the hotel in the time you'd still be waiting at the airport for the ride. San Francisco is a big tourist town, and the natives are very friendly. You can be sure that in the highly unlikely event you get lost, someone will be glad to help you out.

I've traveled a lot in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. I can't think of any airport where it's easier to get to downtown than by BART in San Francisco.

This is my fourth or fifth post on this subject. Sorry for sounding like a broken record, but I just hate to see people wasting their money on a cab when BART is so easy.

Just a brief update.

I really don't feel like making my way around downtown SF after 10pm at night, so I will be arriving on the morning of the 14th.

I'm now scheduled to arrive at 1:13 PM on the 13th.  Just a bit earlier than my original schedule.  And it's going to be "jacket weather" here in St. Louis as I head off to the bus stop at 6 AM to work my way to the airport.
