How do you take a screen capture of your desktop?

On a Mac you hit command+shift+3, not sure what the shortcut is on a PC.

alternatively you can just host the image elsewhere and post a link to it.

Uh, no that's not what I was talking about -- yours just seems like the image you're using for a desktop.  It's not a true screen capture of your desktop like mine, with all of the icons, etc.  You're just talking about image hosting.

I didn't think you wanted to see my icons, but were actually interested in the image.  You want me to show you my icons baby?

That's what a "screen capture" is, boy.

ps: here Tedderz, this is how to do it on a PC

How do you take a screen capture of your desktop?
hit the print screen button on your keyboard
open up PAINT
ctl-v (paste)
save as a JPG

I'm currently cycling through the folder of "blue" pictures (375 images) from my wallpaper collection

I cheated and just took a photo.. ;D

I tried to folow the instructions in the link you posted Miss P but when I pressed the Print/Screen button nothing happened so I couldn't go any further.

BTW...The screen saver photo was taken in September of hubby (lead singer) on the night he was inducted  into New Zealands Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

While I'm here can you tell me how do I get my photo from coming up as a npg file and back to jpg file..any ideas?

wondered why it was there since it never seemed to do anything? Well, it does do something! It copies an image of your screen onto the "clipboard,"
when you hit "print screen" it only seems as if nothing happens. there's no sound or notice; however a snapshot of your screen is taken. The print screen button works like ctrl-C when you copy something. You just needed to follow the next step of opening up a graphics program (like Ms Paint) and pasting the snapshot that was stored in the windows clipboard (that's the place where information is stored when you hit ctrl-C to copy) when you hit the button. then when you save the picture, make sure to set the FILE TYPE to JPG (that's right under the SAVE AS line)

Thanks for the advise leatherman, will try and see if I can work it out.

I don't  want to hi-jack Miss P's post but, I need a problem solving...if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I download my photo's to Picasa, they have always dowloaded as a jpg file ..but for some reason they now come up as a npg file and I'm not sure why, is there anyway of getting them back to a jpg file when I down load them from my camera..hope that doesn't sound too confusing..thanks.

Jan, I always just copy the pictures off my camera's cards directly to a folder on my pc.  I usually name the folder with the date (of when I copied the pics off the card).  I treat these pic files like the originals that they are - any editing ends with a 'Save As' and whatever name I want to give it (usually relating to the subject of the pic).  These originals are generally copied to an external drive as well as remaining on the pc / notebook.  If you want to be totally sure the originals stay original, you can copy the entire folder of pics (right-click and copy, then right-click and paste to where you want them copied).  Then, import them into Picasa or whatever; the originals are safe.  You'll probably want to burn them to CD or DVD at some point for archival or for the inevitable hard drive failure.  I can talk you through it on FaceBook chat easier, though, when you're actually doing it, if you like.  ;)

but for some reason they now come up as a npg file
it sounds like your file association has been hijacked.
go here http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm and download "JPE/JPG/JPEG Association Fix" the fix for JPGs

download the zip file, double click to open it, drag the file inside to your desktop
then double click that new file on the desktop and let it make the changes to your registery
Reboot, and try downloading from your camera again.

Post the fucking thing. If you're really worried just post an inline link and note that it might be NSFW.

Well, I haven't gotten a scolding (so far), so that's good.  I guess I need to change my desktop to the cute pic of my doc and post that.

Trey, it was a pic of a penis--a hard one at that.  No sex act, but the male body.  It was an accurate look at what my desktop looks like.

Modified:

That must have been a Freudian slip where I said "cute pic of my doc" cause I meant dog.

Yeah you were censored babe.

I gotta tell ya Theodora when you said artistic I was expecting something a little tamer than what you posted. Maybe one of those tacky black and white male muscle noodz so beloved of a certain sort of homosexualist male. At the outside one of the milder Mapplethorpes.

But I didn't for a moment expect you to post what you did. Barely Legal Boyz FTW! When you strike out you certainly go all the way, kiddo. :)

Exactly what I pictured in my mind's eye.  Some male nude dressed up to be posh and artistic but in reality is just a naked dude with a "wistful" look on his face.

Now, I know I've seen naked pix posted here before--and videos.  I actually saved some of them from here.  The fisting video comes to mind.  Maybe they were posted as links-- instead of in your face??  Okay, didn't mean to derail the thread.  Let's see some more from other members.  I do find it interesting what people are into and enjoy looking at.

Don't mean to get off the point of the thread, so I apologize in advance.  I just wanted to say that photobucket pulled my pic of the penis.  It said I violated their terms of use.  So, even if the moderators here pulled it, it would have been pulled anyway.  I'm kinda surprised that photobucket reviews every pic--especially since my account is private and can't be seen by others.  Man, they would have to review millions of images.  I have a pic of a guy in a shower with his butt showing on photobucket.  I guess butt picks are okay--no crack close-ups, though.

Photobucket censors all sorts of shit. It's one of the reasons I have my own image host on my own site.

I wouldn't get too fussed about it Teddy. You didn't mean no harm.

you should be able to hit the "Print Screen" button (near "scroll lock")
open up corel
chose something like "EDIT" then "Paste as a New Image"
save that with a name as a "JPG"

then upload that pix to photobucket
get the "direct url" code
post here using the IMG icon/code
