drunken night with fsw

Hello everyone

I previously visited aidsmeds a good year or so ago with an unprotected oral worry. - thankfully your advice was well taken and resulted in a conlusive 13 week negative.

I have heeded all advice and not taken any risks since.

A week ago I went to a UK barbers shop and I observed the client in front of me have the back of the bottom of his neck shaved with an open blade cut throat type razor. I noticed the barber cut a spot on the guys neck which bled very slightly.

Some 5 minutes went by and I got my haircut - at the end of my hair cut the barber picked up the same razor wiped it on his overall then procedded to shave the bottom of my neck - there was no sterilisation other than an alohol spray on my neck to assist with the shave. - I have a particularly poor skin condition and was left with a red neck - I did not notice and visible bleeding on myself but feel the head had been removed from some of my spots.

I feel stupid for not stopping the barber and insiting on a full sterilisation - I have noticed over the years that uk barbers have poor hygeine but it has not bothered me . - I think only the site of the blood on the previous client has set off my old fears - this has partiularly bothered me given my 100% compliance to the rules of staying safe.

I am being paranoid or is there a worry here?

Hope that Andy or Ann could give professional advice.

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

This is a recurring situation that has come up in relation to barbershops whether it be via a shave, a haircut and scissors, razors or clippers. Several billions of nicks, scrapes and cuts later in this situation and we've never had a documented case of transmission in this manner. Not one.

Your concern is understandable and it certainly wouldn't hurt in general for your barber to exercise some basic sanitary efforts. But as far as transmission is concerned this was only a theoretical risk. Too many iffy factors have to be in alignment for this to be a genuine risk and happily it just doesn't happen.

You don't have to get tested nor have any further concern. If you haven't already read the new lesson on transmission on this site I do recommend that you read it.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

All you need to do is ask for the data behind the speculations from anyone giving risk assessment. This site has them to give.
"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Hello all

As a previous visitor to the site I have been very careful to always use protection.

Last night I was on a drunken night out which ended up in a visit to a massage parlour.

I had protected vaginal with the young Romanian girl - after which I checked the condom with water - all ok.

My worry is that as I sucked on her nipples I drew breast milk in to my mouth - the girl stated she had recently given birth and the milk was still there and showed me some by squeezing a breast.

As a previous worrier - do I need to worry about this incident - given I was drunk and think the sex was fully protected

Condoms prevent hiv infection, so no problem or risk there as you used a condom.

Breast milk is ONLY a danger to BABIES who are fed on nothing but hiv infected breast milk. A few drops are not going to put an adult at risk for hiv. Saliva contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Even babies fed hiv infected breast milk are not guaranteed of becoming infected. There is NO WAY an adult would become infected from a few drops, or even more for that matter.

You did not have a risk for hiv infection.

Thanks for the quick reply - I have been vary careful to follow the condom advice but just panicked a little over another type of fluid issue and needed reassurance from some of the experts here.

GUM Doctor (Consultant) says Risk
« Reply #10 on: September 20, 2007, 01:25:35 pm »
I went to GUM clinic yesterday for swab tests for other STI's - I told the consultant I had protected sex and ased what my chances of HIV were she told me that condoms only have "efficafy?" of average 85% - am I to assume that this means I have a 15% risk of exposure due to protected vaginal.

(No early indications of oher stis - results in 2 weeks - should I test for HIV in 6 weeks - 12 weeks

This visit has got me worrying and stressed - did not mention the breastmilk to doctor.

uk,

What the consultant failed to tell you is the 85% efficacy rating she gave you includes condom failure. If you use condoms correctly as outlined in the links in my signature line, you will not experience condom failure. Get reading/looking at those links. The first one includes videos!

Condoms, used correctly and consistently, prevent hiv transmission.

UK,

Why should the breast milk worry us? You're not a newborn baby whose only sustenance is breast milk, are you? Thought not. No, we're not worrying about the breast milk at all and neither should you.

Condoms prevent hiv transmission. You don't need to go around filling used condoms with water to prove it either.

You do not need to test over this situation. You didn't have a risk.

result was negative as you predicted - could you answer if the standrad gum clinic test is the p24 duo test as i read that this is reliable after 4 weeks and would give me great peace of mind.

UK,

Your test came back negative because you ARE hiv negative. You didn't have a risk.

You will not be allowed to use this forum as your hand-wringing palace if you intend on pretending you're in a window period with further testing necessary. More testing is not necessary.

Make sure you read the Welcome Thread and familiarise yourself with our posting guidelines before continuing to post over this no-risk situation.

Stayin safe but another worry
« Reply #16 on: November 11, 2007, 10:52:10 am »
I have been following the advice of the forum and staying safe with condoms. However, I recently visited a massage parlour for safe sex.

As I was getting dressed I accidentally rubbed a sty on my eye with the fingers I had been using to finger the prostitute - is there any risk here if my fingers were still wet?

Any answers would be appreciated

No Andy, rubbing your eye (sty or not) after fingering a woman will not give you HIV.

This was a no risk incident. Even IF the woman was HIV+, the secretions you'd have on your finger would not have been from her cervical area. You would have had the fluids from her vaginal lips or inside the vaginal cavity. The cervical area further up is where her fluids would have HIV, if in fact she was even HIV+.

Fingering is not a risk for HIV transmission and you are worrying needlessly about this.
