It can be used to lessen/ease certain conditions associated with an HIV infection.  My doctor actually recommended way back when because I felt too sick to eat most of the time.

But in general. just being positive and using it is simply recreational.

Follow-up Q:

Is it better to smoke it or add this on food (like space cakes)?

People are also talking about the effects of cannabis oil. I would like to consider that too.

respiratory issues are certainly a concern with us. after two bouts of pneumonia, my doctor knows i smoke but wants me to find a different method.

ingesting it can be more intense than expected even for seasoned smokers

pretty much all of the alternatives are refined and much more potent than raw plant

vaporize, wax dabble, cooking butter, extracts... proceed and be bold, but stay cautious

Aside from helping to improve appetite, Cannabis also has anti-inflammatory properties.  Underlying inflammatory problems can inhibit CD4 recovery.  If you have chronic pain that is not easily relieved by other medications, it's worth trying if it improves your quality of life.  If you are concerned about the effects smoking cannabis has on the lungs, then try edibles.

I like it. It seems to help me to de-stress myself and see things in a different way. I am not keen on inhaling the smoke because it has a lot of tar in it but the edibles I tried were WAY too strong for me... I had trouble forming sentences!! It makes me horny sometimes too.

the choicest flowers are in, fine as wine smells just like summertime

i agree with 9lives, at the end of the day, i consume because it dissolves stress. any other benefit is welcomed, but thats not the primary reason i smoke. for awhile, everything is a little more gentle, it all just goes away, aids isn't such a big deal, legs don't really hurt that bad, i can hear billy laughing again, i walk a little further with bijou

but i may never backpack again, so i smoke another bowl to digest that reality. but not so much i fall down again

I would say cannabis is actually beneficial for sufferers of HIV for a multitude of reasons:

1. THC and certain cannabanoids are highly anti-inflammatory.
2. Cannabis can help increase appetite for those suffering from weight loss.
3. Cannabis can be very good in treating depression and anxiety.
4. Cannabis (in particular the Indica strains) can help with sleep/insomnia.

Like with everything, moderation is the key. In one study, they proved that there was no diminished lung function from those that smoked 1 joint a day for 10 years, but there was very evident deterioration of lung function from those that smoked tobacco.

I would highly advise using a vapourizer. I recently purchased one last month and now I have a vape before I go to sleep to help with my chronic insomnia. It has changed my life. I no longer need to worry about any damage to my lungs. Occasionally, usually once or twice a week, i'll smoke a joint instead, but strictly pure without any tobacco.

So like with everything in life, moderation is key. If it is interfering with your every day life and you are smoking it regularly throughout the day, then it becomes a problem. But I have found it to help with my mood, my perspective on life and my energy levels. Cannabis has extremely good medicinal qualities so don't be put off.

Just to also add, that I disagree entirely that vaping is much stronger than smoking. When you smoke you are also inhaling impurities such as tar, carbon monoxide which also contribute to the 'stoned' feeling. Vaping doesn't combust any plant material, so you are getting about 95% of the pure THC. It is a much cleaner and much more subtle high. I prefer it. Invest in a vape...you won't look back!

Can anyone recommend a good vaporizer?

I had a Pax.  Was portable and worked okay.  But then I got high and lost it.

They are expensive like 2-3hundred bucks so before I replace it wanted to see if anyone had good experiences with a different brand.

I've never done oils.  I have access to oils since you can just buy them at he store here I've just never tried it.  Pax was simple.  The volcano is so big.  It looks like quite the production.  I'll look into a vapor brothers.

I would go for the Arizer Solo. Amazing reviews and fantastic vapour clouds. Really easy to use and can be used with solids, bud or oils. Check it out.

I have a very good experience with cannabis. I use a simple glass vaporizer, that works wonders for me.  I needed to take pills to sleep, to pass stools, high blood pressure and depression. All gone babe! I just vape my thing every night and my life is like paradise. I am seriously thinking about planting my own because I hate buying weed: it's still illegal here...

I guess it also made my CD4 skyrocket in a few months. Before THC, it took me more than a year to go from 270 to 500 but after I started vaping, CD4 number rising has accelerated rapidly, jumping to 689 3 months ago and now 1.100 as of last 10/12.

Due to cannabis or not, I feel very happy with the results and won't quit. :)

Not sure if someone has already posted this study, but cannabis has been found recently to slow down the HIV virus (studies by Dr Patricia Molina). I can't find the medical article, but here's a similar one.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/11/marijuana-hiv_n_4767901.html

Also of course it helps with the nausea and hunger problems. I've been smoking for 4 years and my doctor said though my VL is high, oddly it hasn't effected my good white cells much, and cannabis MAY have something to do with that, not does.

I use a da buddha vaporizer.

It all depends on what you are using it for. I would say it can help mitigate the side effects from drugs, such as insomnia, pain etc. But I don't believe it improve your overall health. If you do use cannabis, then try where possible to use edibles or vapourizers. Smoking isn't advised for us pozzies. But if you smoke a few spliffs a week then i wouldn't be concerned...

Not sure if you are still looking but the Magic Flight Launch Box is pretty awesome when I used to vape. I now stick to raw vegan Rx edibles only.

I am a big advocate of cannabis! As someone who has suffered from major anxiety & depression I have found that it helps me more than a lot of the nasty pharmaceuticals out there. I've smoked it many times in the past but I can't always be where I can smoke it but I find that the capsule form is great they last longer in your system and are steadier. I've been partaking in these lately & am noticing a huge change I feel actually more alive & tranquil & don't feel all jacked up in the head. And no panic attacks for quite some time.

Just to update. I've not been using my vapouriser for quite some time. Started smoking joints again, but as i'm european, mixing it with tobacco. I also only smoke high quality hash as i now find all the new green strains are just far too powerful.

It's such a shame what the cannabis community has done to MJ. It's no longer MJ but cannabis on serious steriods. That's why i only smoke quality hash. That said, if you can take the stronger stuff, then go for it. Everyone is different.

Anyway, I plan on giving up smoking and going back to vaping as smoking is simply bad news! Unless you smoke it pure, which isn't as carcinogenic as tobacco.

I started smoking joints awhile back, and it really helped my anxiety and depression a lot but I was also smoking way too many cigarettes & wanted to quit those so I took up vaping. Big fan of vaping! I've now been off cigs for several months thanks to vape. I vape hash sometimes, but now I've been using the capsules & they're great for like during the week when I need constant stress & anxiety relief. A good quality vape pen is the way to go!

Everyone who combusts the dry herb should get a vaporizer!  As a long time smoker pre-diagnosis shortly after diagnosis I bought a vaporizer.  "The Plenty" made by Storz & Bickel, the same people who make the volcano and I rarely use anything else or actually "smoke" anymore.

Whenever I do smoke it tastes disgusting and does not have the same effect... Almost feels "dirtier" in terms of making me more foggy.  It is hard to describe except that it's different and not as enjoyable as with the vaporizer.

It won't help your treatment work any better, but it might help lessen some of the negative side effects of your medicine and psychological distress.

Both triumeq and my antidepressant kill my appetite. I don't smoke often, but when I do it makes it easier to eat.
