new labs, GRRRR!
« on: July 24, 2006, 04:41:01 pm »
Some good news and some bad news....

VL still less than 50
Percentage up to 27
Cholestorol good
CD4 down to 410 from 610 three months ago.

I know that VL is most important.  Just pisses me off, I want those CD4's back!
The difference between an overnight and a layover is luck!

Hey there.  I don't know enough yet about labs 2 know about the bad news but wanted 2 say congrats on the good part.  From all I have read I know the percentage is really and if that went up then that sounds great.

Percentage is important... you say it's up and if that's the trend, that's great.  Don't worry too much about CD4 fluctuations.  Look at how they've been doing over a range of different labs.  And you're right... low VL means there's less virus replication and your immune system is doing pretty well.

A friend always has CD4 under 50, but undetectable VL.  He's in great health.  He just lost a lot of CD4s during the years when we didn't have any good meds.  But he's fine.

Good luck, and don't think about those numbers too much.

Rob
cd4+ 617 30% undetec - Jul06
cd4+ 221 17% 32K - Dec01
cd4+ 640 41% 5K - Feb96
current meds: Reyataz+Norvir, Viread, Epzicom, Valtrex, Wellbutrin
+ 1992, first meds 2002: Viramune (nvp), Zerit (d4t), Epivir (3tc) -- (m184v mutation & resistant to non-nukes, so no Atripla)

Hi there

I agree with the guys, as long as your percentage is improving you are doing ok..try not to worry too much about them.

Hope you have a good week.

Hey there,

Way to go with your percentage! Agree with all the others about your CD$4.

Try to keep a positive outlook!

My doc says it is fine and we need to worry about trends not numbers.  VL undetectable which is real good.  I just really like being over 600, thought, I was normal.  Now I am in scary zone, IMHO.  O well, we shall see what happens in October.

I wouldn't worry too much about the CD4 absolute count.  As others say, the percentage is a good number to watch and tends to vary less for most people.  Just as an example, when I was having some side effects from the meds somehow they did a CD4 count on a Friday and again 3 days later.  On Friday the count was 717, on Monday it was 640.  So the absolute count can vary wildly in just a matter of days with nothing abnormal going on.  And yes, I've been told the VL is the most important thing to watch too.  Overall I think your lab numbers were great and nothing to be concerned about.

David
Diagnosed 1/9/06

11/19/2007 CD4 609, 30%, VL < 50 (84 wks)
2/11/2008 CD4 439, 27%, VL <50 (96 wks)
5/5/2008 CD4 535, 28%, VL <50 (108 wks)
10/20/2008 CD4 680, 28%, VL <50 (132 wks)
Changed to Atripla in 2012
1/14/2013 CD4 855, 35%, VL <40

CD4s yo-yo like crazy. They can go up and down by the hundreds and are even different at different times of the day.

My CD4s dropped by nearly 300 at my last test. No biggie. It happens to me all the time.

The percentage is what is a good barometer of what's happening, and yours is saying full speed ahead.

Keep up the good work.

HUGS,

Mark

You are doing great! As everyone has said (LMAO ERIC) They go up and down, up and down. Nothing to worry about, seriously. Just fasten your seat belt and get ready for the ride. It is all good!

Great news regarding the controlled HIV replication! That is good news! Echo what everyone else said regarding CD4s.
NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.
