You have tested positive for HIV 1 ... I would call them and ask for calcification ASAP and ask what followup test they intend to do .

Hi cfh, tested positive myself a month ago.

Your doctor has not treated you appropriately. They should be dealing with your symptoms and discussing next steps.

Can you find a different doctor, can you access a support organisation in your area, can you get help from friends and family?

cfh, you need to get to a doctor or clinic and have confirmatory tests run. Antibody tests need to be confirmed with a test called a Western Blot. If that is also positive, then you do have hiv.

Once it is established whether or not you've had a true or false positive antibody result, then more tests need to be run to determine your viral load (VL) - which shows how much virus is in your blood stream, and you will need to have blood drawn to determine your CD4 count. CD4s are a subset of white blood cells that tell us how our immune system is doing. Many other blood tests will be run as well.

The most important thing for you to do now is to have more blood drawn to confirm your preliminary diagnosis. Get it done ASAP.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
