Gonorrhea reccurance?
« on: April 05, 2012, 07:44:53 pm »
Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if in HIV, recurrence of symptomatic gonorrhea can occur over several months, following just one exposure several months before? I should add, following treatment with anti biotics.

There are HIV resistant strains of chlamydia, which often mimics gonorrhea. There are also many resistant strains of gonorrhea.

In people with HIV, sometimes the "rules" are different. I urge you to keep working with your doctor to find a successful treatment.

Hi it's not actually myself, it is my partner, who says he was infected several months ago, and has a continual recurrence, is that possible?

Neil, our focus here is strictly on HIV. So I am reluctant to comment further on your question. Yes, there can be treatment-resistant cases of gonorrhea as detailed in the link JK posted for you. Perhaps a joint conversation with his doctor might be a possibility.

There is a larger issue here and that is whether you feel your partner is being forthright with you. That's something for you two to discuss. You can express your concerns directly without attacking him. Mutual trust is an essential part of what makes a relationship work.

As far as HIV is concerned, keep in mind that condom use for anal intercourse can be dispensed with only when both partners have agreed to be in a securely monogamous relationship in which both have reliably tested negative together.

Any advice on how to do that, because the conversation did not go well at all.

Tell him you want transparency on health - you will be honest with him and he will be honest with you. If he can't manage that, draw the line in the sand.

What exactly is happening? He is withholding sex, saying he fears he has the clap.  Or he is telling you he thinks he has recurring clap, and he has symptoms?

If he has recurring symptoms, suggest he go to the doctor and get his issue identified and treated.

If the issue is you think he is getting reinfected over and over, then discuss that.
