Happy days
« on: March 15, 2007, 10:00:52 am »
For those on here who don't know I work for a hospital as a mental health counselor. I got a call yesterday from my supervisor saying I was chosen to be Employee of the Year! I'm completely shocked. I work weekends, I'm not in administration and generally keep a low profile so to be selected is a real surprise. Apparently I get $500, an expense paid vacation for two, my own parking space for a year and I attended an awards banquet with the big wigs.

I'm also happy because next week I am going on vacation for a week. I'm going to hang out with my best friend who lives in Los Angeles, go to the San Diego Zoo, visit Black's Beach and get naked in the sun, visit the remodeled Griffith Observatory, see my first body building competition and totally go off my diet. I've been working 55-60 hours a week for the past couple of months and relish the thought of getting away from it all and relaxing in the California sun.

GREAT NEWS!  Well deserved im sure!  Have fun.

what great news.  congratulations!  Black's Beach?  Be careful.  It's a treacherous walk down to the beach and once you get there make sure you have plenty of lotion.  Don't stay in the sun too long.   Remember you have a competition coming up in a few months.

Congrats!

Yes, DO be careful of the climb down to Black's Beach (ahem, having made that treacherous journey myself many a time...).  I'm sure you're going with friends who will show you the ropes, but it's my understanding that the mega tight-assed city of San Diego is cracking down on public nudity on its part of that particular stretch of shoreline.

Thanks, John. I'll be going to Black's Beach on my own so I will look out for puritanical police. I'm sure my partner would not be thrilled if I called saying I was arrested for indecent exposure. 8)

I haven't heard of any police action in the last 3 years, but rather heard of people injuring themselves on the trail, so be careful going down and up the trail.

I'm back from my vacation and had a terrific time. The San Diego Zoo was terrific. The Griffith Observatory is gorgeous. Black's Beach was very relaxing other then having a squirrel literally jump on me to get at my power bar.

The body building competition was fun and educational. I learned the posing routine is more of a performance and requires real choreography. I'm not very coordinated so that will be a challenge and I need to pick a really good song. The men's physiques were both intimidating and motivating. I think by June my physique will be good enough to be in the competition but I don't have enough mass to win.

The vacation is now over and I have to start "cutting", which means a strict high protein, low fat, complex carbohydrate diet. The goal is to lose fat while maintaining muscle. It's going to be a bitch.

The weather was not as warm as I had hoped; it was actually warmer in Greensboro! I still found the beaches to be very nice. I stayed in La Jolla a couple of days and it is a really nice area.

My partner grew up in Los Angeles and we lived there together a couple of years. Recently he had asked about us possible moving back. I told him it is never going to happen because real estate prices in Southern California are just insane. The median price of a home in San Diego is $539,000 versus $164,000 in Greensboro. Gasoline is 60 cents a gallon more expensive there. Even going to McDonalds is more expensive. It is a wonderful area but we couldn't live there without having a drastic drop in our standard of living.
