My Philosophy paper
« on: October 06, 2013, 05:51:04 pm »
My Philosophy teacher gave us our choices for our first paper.
They are:  It is unethical to have sex relations unless one is married.
The purpose of sex relations is pleasure.
All forms of sexual relations between consenting adults is ethical.
Homosexuals should be allowed to get married.
                Homosexual relations are immoral.

I can't decide which one to do so I am going to put them in a jar and pull one.

Also my teacher is in his late 50's, a Mennonite and rather liberal for a Mennonite.  He also "enjoys" "picking" on the shunned Amish guy and the 2 girls from a foreign country.

I am glad this is my only philosophy class because it is driving me batty.

I loved Philosophy, and Ethics even more so.  I believe most philosophy professors are liberal, I couldn't imagine an ultra-conservative teaching that class.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

1) isnt true, and is it even a question about ethics...
4) well i guess would be interesting to argue for or against ones personal ethic

I'd say 2 and 3 are the most inviting as ethical questions, lots of room to develop....

Good luck with your paper. I would chose "the purpose of sex relations is pleasure." Purpose implies design and there are a lot of ways to go with that.

I agree!!  And like Betty I liked Ethics a bunch.

Writing a paper on the legalization of drugs ( the opposite of what I believed) opened my mind.

I'm disappointed to read if this prof enjoying picking on anyone!!

I took Philosophy and Religion in college. I always added a little fun and flavor to my papers and presentations and inserted a bit of Bill Maher.  ;)

You can choose the topic that interests you and lets you weave an interesting and thought provoking presentation (with a scholarly tilt).

Have fun with it.

Good luck with it Miss Kitty, if you are like me your house will be ultra tidy because you have a paper to do .

Think I would go for Sexual pleasure then I could include power relationships , then stick it to  him for being a bully re the Amish guy.
