Another Bush Fire danger day
« on: March 02, 2009, 12:59:05 am »
Hi everyone

Tonight and tomorrow are another scary and dangerous time in my part of the world. I live in the Otway ranges of Victoria, Australia. Our town was destroyed in the Ash Wednesday Fires of 1983 though miraculously our house survived. Travel has been discouraged and most of the National Park adjoining our property is closed.

We have 26 buckets filled with water as well as the bathtub and spa tub and large recycling bin. We have flashlights, battery operated radios, masks, goggles and leather gloves at the ready. The wool blankets are in place as well as long sleeves shirts and jeans made of cotton. We have plenty of potable water as well.

We do not have town water, we catch the rain from the roof and our tanks are full. The entire region is on edge and on full alert. We are surrounded by the forest though there is good clearing around the house. We are prepared to stay and defend our house should the event arise. We are of course praying it won't.

Please keep us here in Victoria in your thoughts  and prayers. With winds forecast of up to 80mph, we will need it.

Peace to all
Paul

Well, at least you still have an internet connection!  Hopefully, all those preparations won't be needed.  If they are, it sounds like you're as ready as can be.  Oh, when I first saw the title of your post, I thought it was 'the' Bush you were referring to instead of other bushes.  After all, isn't everything else his fault?   :D

I hope you have a plan if you need to get out fast... my friend did not burn from the fire but, the oxygen was depleted from the fire and he sufficated...smoke inhallation etc... property can be replaced people cannot... Wishing you the Best! sincerely, John

Thanks David and John for your good thoughts !

A cold front is passing through as I write this. The day did not bring fires as officials feared. I admit that I and most townsfolk were a bit nervous. Now I  can use all that  water we had stored on our very parched gardens  :D

Cheers, Paul
