Hi everybody. I hope everyone is doing fine, but I have a question. I have been infected with HIV since December 18, 2005. I have had way too many digestive system problems. I'm pretty sure that those on here who are also infected, can relate to what I'm talking about.

Anyway, when I came down with the HIV, they also detected Hep C type 1 (the worst kind,) but I finished the treatment for that back in September of 2009, so it will be a year this coming September. My labs have shown that even since the very first month I was on the interferon treatment, (which is really difficult, especially if you have HIV,) that the Hep C virus got pretty much wiped out. Also my labs from three months ago, six or seven months after completing the treatment, the virus was still "not present" in my body.

My doctor was happy about my labs and told me that I was cured for Hep C, but lately, though, for the last two weeks or so, my liver has been hurting a lot and when I go to the bathroom, I deficate these really bright, green stools. They almost shine from how green they are.

I'm a little worried because I did some research on line and found out that some of the causes for green stools may be related to various dangerous infections and diseases, including cancer.

Can anyone elaborate on this? Especially if there is someone who has gone through the same thing I have? Should I be worried? If it is cancer, how is that detected and how would they know where the cancer is?

No, not yet. I live in a small community and I have to travel 3 hours to see my doctor, who only works at the HIV clinic on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I have an appointment with him on the 22nd. I'm planning on asking him, but the worry won't let me sleep and I also want to hear what someone with the same experience has to say...

Pecker,

The cause of green stools could be as simple as something your eating all the way up to something serious. Definitely bring this up with your doctor. If you want to do somemore research, here is a link:

Thanks for the reply, I really do hope it's nothing serious, I'm already pretty fucked up in head because of the HIV and all that I've gone through that if have another serious illness, I may not take it so well. I just can't let go of things like that, especially because I used to and still take good care of myself.

I'm sure it's nothing and if it is (which I highly doubt) we'll all help you deal with it.

Remember, deal with things as they arise. Usually, for every issue there is a procedure to follow.

Try not to worry (I know, easier said than done.).

Often it is a harmless reaction to something you ate, particularly when there are no other symptoms. I admit it is a disquieting color! I hope this is all that it is.

Try eating beets. You'll think you're bleeding out the ass... and pissing blood!

When I eat a big serving of spinach, my sh*t is very green ... but not neon!... actually you might make some $$$ off of that if you can get it to shine under a black light and do a YouTube video.

But on a serious note, please have it checked out.

Being that it is subjective, I am not quite sure what you mean by hurting a lot. But, if the pain is constant and even slightly unbearable, I would contact my doctor immediately. It could possibly be your gall bladder giving you fits.

I use to get green stools as a kid much more often than I ever have as an adult. Don't know about the neon. That sounds different. You mentioned your liver hurting. With liver damage, I thought stools become pale color. How do you know your liver is hurting? When I've mentioned pain I get under rib, they always say probably my bowels instead.

I can remember drinking something and having bright green stools, after Googling I remembered the drink was KoolAid, but it also says Popsicles, and anything with heavy dyes can cause bright green Stools. Have you been consuming any of these lately?

But yeah, definately consult your doc, especially with the pain in your abdomen.

When I used to drink the cheap grape flavored drink that came in the gallon plastic container at the local store I would get stools that ranged in color from dark green to dark blue to purple.

It would subside within a couple of "movements." I didn't like the effect and decided to switch to the fruit punch flavored "Jungle Juice" instead (which was much more fitting for me anyway).

We all have ghastly experience with our poopy. It's part and parcel of having AIDS. Hep C too, it would seem.

I know that in the mornings when I get up there better be nobody in my way to the bathroom. Its not as bad now as it was a few month ago when I first got on meds but I have to GO big time when I first get up. The urge to purge is exponentially stronger than ever before.

I took the mother of all shits in a Hess gas station on Yamato Rd in Boca Raton back in 96', and it was two days after Thanksgiving. No, I didn't flush, but I did take the time to leave a note and shut the water valve before exiting.

Skeebo, was that you in the public restroom at Union Station (Washington DC) back in Feb? Somebody left their 'gifts' in the toilet and whoever tried to flush them down caused a major flood. They closed the entire men's room for an hour and folks had to find other places to take care of business.

That may have been my older brother, he works out of the Pentagon. I think he's a real piece of shit, so it may have been him.

I started getting complaints from retail staff that they were getting shorted items in the morning. I would do morning counts before turning over inventory and it became obvious someone was stealing. One day while taking a dump in the bathroom I found a little white pastry bag on top of the lockers. Someone snatched 6 chocolate cigars. I took them out and shit in the bag. Think of the joy when I witnessed one of the clean-up guys taking said bag out to his car. It doesn't end there.. I had to let him go the next morning and he never said a word about his chocolate cigars.

Did I ever tell you guys about of my immediate resignation letter I gave to an employer one time that included a recipe for split pea soup? That job really sucked.

You should get some Milk Thistle for your liver. I take it and my liver enzymes used to be kinda high and they went right back down to normal after i started taking the milk thistle. For your digestive issues you should either take some chewable acidophilus or probiotic acidophilus. It contains those live enzymes you find in yogurt but in a more concentrated dose. I used to have really bad tummy pains and loose loose stools but the acidophilus really helped.

Pecker, I have had green poops as well over the past 20 years of living with HIV. I don't really concern myself with it much because most times it's after I eat green veggies, salad & too much beer.

However, be sure to mention it to your doc. And always remember... those of us living with HIV just love talking about our poops & more. We have to look at the humor in it, otherwise we'd drive ourselves bananas. Actually, I wouldn't mind having poop the color of bananas, would stop all the skid marks on the undies. tehehehehe
