Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

I'm stupid

3 weeks ago I was really dumb and had unprotected sex.  About a week ago I started getting a cough and sore throat.  I've been looking around to find out what the symptoms of Acute HIV Infection are and get a laundry list of Fever, Rash, Sore Throat, enlarged lymph nodes.  Can anyone tell me firsthand about the early symptoms of HIV?

We do not discuss symptoms here because neither the presence or absence of symptoms will tell you anything about your hiv status.

What do you mean by unprotected sex? We need to know what happened that you consider to be a risk. Some people will call getting a blowjob "unprotected sex" but getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection.

I had sex with a woman that I didn't know (vaginal).

I guess it doesn't make sense to get tested for 13 weeks .. right?

Whether you "know" a woman or not, you should not be having unprotected intercourse with anyone until such time as you maybe in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners test negative together.

In all other circumstances, whether with someone you know or don't know, civilian or professional sex worker, you need to be wearing a latex condom everytime. Period. No exceptions.

If you had unprotected intercourse this past time then you need to get tested at 13 weeks for a reliable result. Odds are you will test negative. HIV is not an easy virus to transmit and it's significantly more difficult to accomplish from female to male. But low risk is not the same as no risk. So get tested and collect what will mostly likely be a negative result. And learn from this experience. Your symptoms mean nothing in terms of knowing about your status. If they persist discuss them with your doctor.
