Curious why this isn't front page news on cnn, bbc or al jazeera

And I answered my own question.  This link has a better translation.  It states that the second phase is to demonstrate effectiveness, the first merely that it is safe.  Essentially, all the Chinese have shown is that their HIV vaccine is safe.

Just about everything in our homes is made in China, so it only seems right that a vaccine would come from there.

I guess it wasn't reported anywhere else is because the scientists in China have not released any details on their researches to the world and for peer reviews, yet. It also fits a pattern of Chinese-characteristic news reporting - it was lumped in with all other "reports" - "improvement on education", "improvement on anti-discrimination", and all sorts of other "improvements" the government has made (i.e. all "good news") on HIV prevention, etc - released before the World AIDS Day.

So no one else paid any attention to it.. other than the state-owned media.
