Title: Hsv and oral sex
Post by: Joeblo on April 12, 2013, 01:39:51 pm
I am aware that a male receiving unprotected oral sex from someone hiv pos is not an issue. However I have a specific situation. I have hsv2. If I am experiencing a symptomatic viral shedding or have a mild unnoticeable outbreak, does that significantly increase the risk from receiving oral sex from someone hiv pos???

It does not. It does, however, significantly increase the likelihood of transmitting herpes to your partner.

I understand. I met someone and I was completely upfront and honest. After the blow job I was informed that this person is a swinger and gets around frequently. It was a shock to me. I would never put someone at risk without them being aware and letting then make their own choice. I have been burned once and know how it feels. I am scared though. I feel I am at more risk because of my condition but I thank you for the assurance.

Well, in the recorded history of the pandemic there have been zero confirmed cases of transmission through receiving oral sex. It's safe to assume that you aren't going to be the first. If you wear a condom for penetrative anal/vaginal sex you will avoid HIV. It really is that simple, despite some sources which attempt to make it seem complicated.
