Ann Coulter spoke before a conservative "think-tanK" and remarked "I was going to speak about the democratic candidate John Edwards tonight but it seems you have to go into rehab if you mention the word faggot".

Some Republicans later criticized her for her comments and then Ms. Coulter, asked for a reaction to the Republican criticism, said in an e-mail message: "C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean."

What can you say about dear Ms Coulter except well - it rhymes with witch !!!

Let me understand this correctly - it's wrong to call someone a faggot, but it's o.k. to call someone a cunt? How about it's wrong to call other people names altogether - even Ann Coulter! Being offended because a total misanthrope, raicist, homophobic, biotch is being called a body part is hardly offensive. Yes. Yes, it is. With a caveat.

While name-calling is of course immature and wrong... we all do it.

However, there are certain words which I think are worse... like the n word. Or kike (which I've been called in all seriousness). Or faggot (which I've also been called in all seriousness). Or spic... or any other racial, ethnic, misogynistic, or homophobic epithet that you can think of. They're worse because they speak approvingly of a paradigm that has been used to deny minority groups their rights, or in some cases, their lives.

Simple words like asshole or bitch? Nope.

All words are not created equal because their connotations are not equal.

It's worse because you can't help it... if you're going to insult someone, go for the personality attributes... it shows more intellect.

What it boils down to is this:

I can't stop being gay or part Jewish.

But Ann Coulter can stop being a cunt.

Hate to be a little prissy here but HATE the 'c' word...maybe its a female thing, but its just such a crude word for something so elegant!!
Its becoming MORE acceptable to use it in UK but I cringe when I hear it used in casual conversation,should be reserved, if you have to use it, for really deserving cases

I personally like more creative insults, anyone for a 'snot goobling little fuck pig?' Apologies to anyone who finds that offensive but at least i put some thought into it

I've always been proud of having come up with douchekebab, myself...

But when I stayed in a hostel at Montreal... there were some Welsh guys there who used the word "cunt" for EVERYTHING... it even put me off a smidge.

It's my least used insult... I cuss like a sailor... but when I bring out the C-Gun, you know it's bad.

In this case, Ann Coulter deserves it.

You're absolutely right. I'm really sorry I brought up the word. It really isn't part of my vocabulary. Even MtD noted how out of character for me it seemed to be uttering that word. I've got a pretty good vocabulary and that word has never been part of it. I don't know where it came from but believe me, it will never happen again.
