Muscle Cramps
« on: September 11, 2006, 09:58:31 am »
Lately I have been having bouts with horrible toe cramps and last night while I was sleeping, I had one in my calf muscle that left it aching all morning.

Anyone else experience this or have any ideas what this is all about?

Thanks,
Patsy

I have the same problem.  Talk to 10 people and you will get 10 reasons why its happening.  My massage therapist will say its because I do not hydrate myself properly. etc etc.  Or that its a lack of calcium and potassium...etc etc.  Good luck.

Thanks, I tried boosting up the potassium and that didn't work.  I'll look into the calcium, too.

I know its not about the hydration, I drink a ton of fluids (water, beer, shots, etc...)  ;)

Lets discuss the fluids....water, beer, shots...?  I wonder if the beer and shots can be be a problem....my partner seems to think my evening cocktail might be the problem.

I have no scientific proof that this works, but it worked for me. Tonic Water or Bitter Lemon or any other soft drink containing quinine can give relief from cramps.

Gin is optional. ;)

Gin and Tonic sounds good to me.

Matty is right, anything with quinine will help, although the amount of quinine is tonic would  only help to relax them a little, but it's not be enough to help with sever cramps...I suffered from bad leg cramps a few years ago and my Doc prescribed Quinine Sulphate meds and they really helped...so something to keep in mind if you need to see your Doc about the cramps.

Thanks Annie, I have my next doctors appointment in October and I will ask him about the Quinine Sulphate.

Tonic... that taste nasty unless you have some gin in it... I'll try that this afternoon at happy hour.   ;D
