Need experet opinion please
« on: August 26, 2008, 03:50:50 pm »
First off i would like to say hi to everybody on the forum and will be grateful for any feedback that i get for my question.

Exactly 4 weeks ago i believe i had a high risk encounter. I had protected sex with both oral and vaginal with a prostitute. The condom that was used was her's although i had two condoms with me. It seemed to be new and she unrolled it over my erect penis. She began by performing oral, then she was on on top and i finished in the missionary position. The condom did not fail to my knowledge during the sex and recall that i pulled out when i ejaculated and the condom was perfectly over my penis with the cum in it. Then i removed the condom and threw it away and the encounter was over. However i started feeling really guilty and stupid for what i had done later that day and have been paranoid about stds since especially HIV. To add another twist to the story i had shaved my genital region approximately 1 hour before the encounter while in the shower using shaving cream. I did not notice any cuts at all during the shaving so basically nothing caught my attention. However, i have become very worried that perhaps vaginal fluids came in contact with the genital region i shaved and the shaving could have given me broken skin that the virus could have passed through assuming the prostitute was HIV +.  I am positive i did not have any open bleeding during the encounter or during shaving. At the most it would have been a very small nick or razor bumps by the base of the penis and my worry is perhaps without my knowledge her vaginal fluids could have come in contact with my shaved genital region and possibly infected me.

Maybe its my paranoia or other sickness, but since the encounter i have occasionally felt some chills and had goosebumps. I have not had a fever or night sweat that i recall. I have not had any cough but i had some sores in my mouth for a few days which have gone away. However, lately i have been feeling very tired and fatigued which i noticed at training. I am a boxer and i recall this monday i had good training session, tuesday i went runing then starting wednesday my training sessions have been shit and i have been feeling very weak and tired when i train otherwise throughout the day i feel fine but have nothing when i train. I did happen to go on a run on tuesday when it was raining rather heavily outside i had a hood on and everything but maybe i caught a lil flu then? I took my temperature a couple of days ago and it was a bit below normal temperature (35.9 and 36.2 Celius). I have heard HIV symptoms are not a good way to indicate whether you have been infected but naturally anything that goes wrong with me i get paranoid.

Thus i would like to know what my chances are of getting infected through protected encounter and if me shaving my genital region approximately 1 to 1.5 hours before sex increased my risk. Or am i paranoid for no reason? I greatly appreciate all the feedback i will get.

Star,

You did NOT have a "high risk encounter", you had a NO RISK encounter. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. It doesn't matter about being freshly shaven, even if you did get some vaginal fluids on where you shaved. Hiv just isn't trasmitted in that way.

Getting blown isn't a risk for hiv infection, with or without a condom.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse with ANYONE, not just sex workers. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS SPECIFIC ENCOUNTER, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms and avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Thanks for the reply Ann i greatly appreciate. I am going to get tested anyhow at the end of the year and i have never had sex without a condom in my life i have always practiced safe sex in fear of stds and unwanted pregnancies. Your reply has helped ease the tension i had been very worried that the shaving could have possibly put me at greater risk. Once again thanks for the reply.

I believe Ann answered that specific query. Please reread her reply. It was not ambiguous.

Gosh, I put it in BOLD CAPS and everything. Maybe I should start using color on that line as well.
