Blood In Urine??...
« on: October 17, 2010, 06:49:59 pm »
So I went to the doctor a few mths back, and there was blood in my urine.
First let me say that if there is blood it must be a small amount, I have never seen blood (red) in my urine!
So the doctor took another urine sample, so in total she took two samples, and I am guessing that the blood was still there..I have looked up some info on the net about blood in urine, and I know a kidney stone could cause it...a infection and hard core thing's like cancer's!!
So I am kinda scared..idk why? but I am... :o

It is perfectly reasonable to be scared of that. I once saw blood in my semen. Total freakout.

But luckily, though there are several major issues that can cause this, there are many more benign issues that can do it. I am glad you are seeing your doctor about it, and that tests are being done. Chin up, if you can, and keep us informed!

Seriously wishing you well

JK

a bit of blood can be released by kidneys if they are under stress/pressure for exemple because of hyperglycemia.... Cheers Eric

you are doing the right thing by letting the doctor take charge here.  I'm guessing they found Red Blood Cells in your urine -- if it were White cells, they'd probably just treat your for a Urinary Tract Infection.

I've done thousands of urinalyses in my time in the lab -- many specimens end up with some RBC's -- most of the time there are some pretty benign reasons.  However, always good to check.  Did you suffer any blows to your lower back?  A little hit to the old kidneys can cause this for a few days.

At any rate -- do what the doctor tells you and let us know how it all turns out.

Having had a TON of kidney stones since a child, Im use to seeing red. Just means a stone has broken lose from the kidney wall and will at some point enter the tube down to the bladder. THATS when the fun begins (that awful pain).
I'd guess your having a kidney stone. Hopefully t will be small, pass fairly easy and fast. Best thing to do is drink LOTS of water, avoid pop, and I find taking antibiotics helped a lot on easing the passing and also stopped the red blood thing in the urine. If you are having a stone, you should be on some antibiotic. And a lot of the time stones do not show up on X-rays. A scan (cat scan thingy) usually finds what X-rays miss. But they are more costly, even if you have good insurance to cover it. But the best thing you can do right now is go and drink like 3 - 4 glasses of water. And hope the stone is a small puppy.

I've been hit on the rear and in the back thousands of times easily and never any blood for me.  Guess I'm just lucky like that.

I didn't mean to imply that any blow to the kidney would cause blood in the urine.  Of course, unless you had a urinalysis shortly after the trauma, you might have had some but never knew.  I'm pretty sure the OP wasn't talking about physical blood in the urine, but rather, microscopic blood.  Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it ain't there......
