I so love the beach.....
« on: June 13, 2007, 08:05:44 pm »
The Gulf Coast (specifically Pensacola Beach area and the Gulf Island National Seashore) is one of my favorite places.  In the past few years I've grown to love just going down and relaxing on the beach.  I've always said if there is one other place I'd love to live it would be the Pensacola area.

Anyway, I took 3 days off of work and drove down to Pensacola.  It is a 10 hour drive from where I work.  I had a great time.   And there is some great scenery.  Nothing like friendly, half clothed, hot guys walking down the beach.  The people are always so friendly. By Sunday, I had met a significant number of friendly people and was invited to join in with a group of about 30 guys that get together every weekend and enjoy the sand and surf.  They ranged in age from mid 20s to mid 70s and got along great.  They were very open and made me feel at home.  They invited me to go to the bar with them after the beach and we had a great time laughing and playing pool.  I got strict orders to make sure I call them before I come back down so I can get together with them again.  It was so nice and so very different from what I'm used to in St. Louis where almost no one speaks to you and the gay community is very very closed.

Anyway, I didn't have any reason to disclose my status but I did have an interesting encounter on Sunday.  I had spent the day talking with a guy named Richard who was just out of a relationship.  (His ex actually showed up at the beach).  Anyway, at the bar, Richard leans over and points to this really cute guy who had been on the beach that day.  And Richard said,  "that's his trick from Mobile and I bet he doesn't have a clue that the other guy is Positive."   It just reminded me that there is still a lot prejudice.

Anyway, here are a few of the "beach shots"!  The first couple of me and then just a couple of general ones.

It was very nice in Pensacola last weekend.  Very nice water temps.  We even got to watch a number of dolphins playing just offshore on Sunday.  And then somehow a group of 20ish guys seemed to lose their trunks in the gulf.  Hummmm....   LOL

David....  Wow what a change in scenery for you!  I have not been around water like that in 20 years...  Let alone hanging with 20 other people who happen to like "similar" things!  ;D   I might also add you look absolutely lickable!!

Me loves the beach too.

You are looking great, and the sand is so white, but where are the waves?

Oh, and I have a question too - does your sand get really hot in summer? like, foot scorching hot? or do you have that wonderful 'air-conditioned' cool sand like I found on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico? The make up of our sand makes it all but impossible to walk on in mid-summer. It can be quite amusing watching people hop, skip and jump there way to the surf.

I've attached a pic of my favourite beach in the world. Damn, I wish it was summer here. I hate the cold  :'( :'( :'(

Hey, we have lots of beach here, ready for the taking.

No crowds!

One catch - bring your own water.

HUGS,

I love the beach too...  Highway 1 follows the California coast and from where it is in Sonoma County (from Mendocino County to Marin... there is not 1 beach called Sonoma Beach.

Recently I was doing business with a small company in Alameda.  The person I was working with asked for my email address (Sonomabeach@isp and he was the first person to ever get it.  Have the best day

:o  The sand gets VERY HOT in the summer here !! I've got to keep something on my feet. May as well be walking on asphalt !! As far as the waves. That doesn't happen often, unless we have a nice westerly breeze, or unless there's  a storm brewing out there. Most of the time no waves, got to go on the other side of Florida for that !! Even on the other side, the waves are not that large, but fun !!

Nice pics!  When I was young, I lived in Alabama.  We used to go to the Gulf beaches often, Panama City in particular.  It's amazing how different the Gulf beaches are from the Atlantic ones.  We now live about 14 miles or so from one of the 'premier' beaches in NC, but I believe I prefer the Gulf beaches.  The really sad thing is that I think I went to the beach maybe once or twice in the past couple of years.  I used to go that much each week, but traffic is SO bad here that it's often not worth it, and the beaches are way too crowded.  I was in Orlando a few years ago for work.  I drove over to St. Petersburg for the day... talk about a pretty place!  I think this winter we may have to make a road trip to Florida!

I lived in Fl. for 10 yrs. and thought i hated it, the crowded roads and people every where, now i want to go back.My oldest son and his two sons are moving back next yr. I am trying to talk my youngest son into moveing back but because my father just died my son doesn't want to be that far from his grandmother. I really miss the beaches tho. I remember Passagrile, and Green Key up in Pasco County.Maybe if i keep nagging he will decide to go. But i still have my memories lol.

:) Oh yes,  Pass-a-griille beach was quite the spot. We used to go down there a lot back in the 80's. The gay part of the beach was south of the restrooms, and the straight beach north of ther restrooms. There was a bar called the "lighted tree" where we all used to go to, after the beach. ( Right across the street from the biker bar !!) That area has changed... Still a very nice beach.

"Honeymoon Island" beaches ( just north of Clearwater beaches were voted second best in the country)

I love the beach too.  I have spent time at Destin and Panama City FL beaches.  I love the sugary white sand and clear aqua waters.  I so miss living in Miami only for the wonder sugary white sands and aqua waters.  The Keys also are so pretty and lets not forget Cozumel Mexico and Blezie Central America.  Oh how I wish I was in Tahiti!

Hey newbern, thanks for the recommendation.  I shall have to check that out.  I do love to travel but haven't been to Mass except for conferences.  So maybe I should make that one of my next summer destinations.

David, you know that Tampa is only an extra 7 hours drive from Pensacola.   I have a great idea, I so need to call you with details, but we should meet up in Pensacola at the end of August.  I even have friends (like you they are more like family) that we can stay with.  Maybe stay for a few days.....  Hugs to you .....
