First day on meds... horrible dizzyness
« on: December 22, 2013, 10:35:43 am »
Started taking the meds (truvada+stocrin) today. Almost 2 hours after taking the meds, I started to feel kind of a "high" and dizzy and it took almost 3 hours to  get back feeling " normalish". Anyone experienced the dizzyness? Will that side effect fade out in time or is this it and will happen all the time?

thanks guys

The stocrin part of your combo is the problem . Take it at night before you go to bed and do not eat a fatty meal or snack 2 hours before and you should see significant improvement .

Thanks Jeff, I took the first dose in the morning which would fit better to my  daily routine. So should I shift to night tomorrow at once without concerning about the changing the time (It was the firs day as I mentioned). And will that dizzyness dissapear when my body get to used to have the chems in my blood or will it happen all the time, every time?

I would take your next dose tomorrow night before bed and be sure not to eat or drink any fatty snacks 2 hours before . You will adjust, the vast majority of people do .

I took that drug for a decade and I do not understand why doctors do not direct that it should be taken before bed . After 10 years I still got the same side effects you describe if I were to take it in the daytime . Taking it at night will help insure you will sleep through those pesky side effects .

Hey!  I started ATRIPLA, very similar I think and I am on day 9. The first night scared the hell out of me!  Don't worry, after day 3 or so, it went away for me....I don't even worry about all this 2 hour stuff before or after. I try to stop eating 2 hours before but not tied to it....Just take it is the important thing I believe...So far, no real side effects except the first 3 nights more or less....I would prefer to take first thing in the morning and will ask my doc at my first 2 month check up...You'll be fine and don't worry about side effects as your body adjusts to the medicine...I am new to this so take it for what it is from a newbie.. ;)

Hey Guys,
Its been 15 days to start the meds, first day was horrible bcs of the dizzyness, 2.day was better and in 5 days time, it almost went off, "almost"! It doesnt effect my daily life, at the end of the 2nd hour after taking the pills, it gives a feeling like I had a straight up tequila for 5-10 minutes. I am carefull about the fat issue, not having high fat foods 2 hours b4&after. If I am busy with doing things etc, I even dont feel it! No other side effects, no insomnia, stomach problems etc for now.
I think I am dealing ok
cheers to all

Why aren't you taking it at bedtime? You should be sleeping two hours after taking it.

When I was young I had a very active social life in NYC and still managed to take my meds at night -- and it wasn't "one" pill like you folks it was a handful of 25 or so. But hey, if you want to trip out by taking them in the morning that's your choice.

I used to take my Atripla at bedtime no matter what time I went to bed back in the day when I was a party animal and it worked fine for me .

Just take it before you go to bed, WHENEVER that is.  This way you'll sleep through the annoying side effects.  The specific time is not crucial.  It's helpful to make it a part of your routine.... like brushing your teeth.

Yes this ^ . Atripla stays in your system a long time so in a way its ideal for the guy on the go if you can tolerate it .

I think one thing to consider when recommending someone takes their meds at night, and they are claiming they often have late nights, is how hard they might party.  If you are coming home quite wasted, you might not take your meds and if you do you might not remember. While this behaviour isn't necessarily ideal for one's health, it isn't too unusual.  Therefore some people want to take their pills in the morning, when they know they can remember to and obtain nearly perfect adherence.

I speak from experience.  LOL

If I were on Atripla and for what ever reason I could not take it at bedtime anymore I would insist on a med change .
