Title: Umm... Tulip buds?
Post by: MoltenStorm on September 02, 2006, 08:00:44 pm
I have a question that maybe one of you knows the answer to. If not, I'm going to ask my doctor about them when I see him in two weeks.

For the past month or so, there have been these skin growths that look like the bud of a tulip on the skin that makes up my anus. They don't hurt, but I do bleed quite a bit when pulling them off.

I don't suppose I picked up genital warts (HPV) along the way did I?

Sounds like HPV to me.  Let a doctor look at them.  And stop picking at them

Hey Molten, it is Eldon:

It is good to hear from you. However, it is not good to hear from what it sounds like you have HPV buddy. In no way am I a Doctor but I took a look and this is what I found: http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/anal_warts.jsp (http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/anal_warts.jsp).

When you go to see your Doctor within the next few weeks, I would definitely have him check it out. In the interim, stop picking at them and read this: http://www.aidsmeds.com/OIs/HPV1.htm (http://www.aidsmeds.com/OIs/HPV1.htm).

Have the BEST Day!

If it is HPV, is that 1) an AIDS-defining OI and 2) a serious condition that could cause problems when coupled with HIV? If so, what type of problems?

Hey Molten:

Here, read this Fact Sheet from the CDC : http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm (http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm).

Hey Molten,

I too had anal warts that "popped" up shortly after I started my HAART (a very common occurrence from what I read).  I had them externally and internally, so a little surgery was in order.  The whole experience wasn't too bad -- a little uncomfortable for a few days, but I got through it.  I had some appear shortly after the surgery, but only externally, so I used a drug called Aldara (a cream) and they went away.  I'm waiting for 3 "clean" monthly exams with my doc -- then a 6 month follow up and all should be good.
HPV is VERY common in the general public, and while anal warts may be more prevalent in the HIV+ world, I have not seen it listed as an OI -- so don't spend anytime worrying about that.  Just find a good Colon & Rectal Surgeon so they can look inside to see how best to treat them.  And like every one else has said --- STOP picking at them -- you may simply be spreading them.

Hello Molten,

I've got them. There almost completely gone right now, but I have had them. Mine were also not noticible until, after I had started on medication. I had one cluster(the appearance kind a reminded me of brocholi). My little cluster was about the size of a match head. I tried Aldarra cream. Didn't have any luck with that . Then I tried podofilox topical solution. It is applied directly to the wart, twice a day, for three consecutive days... and then off for 4. This stuff did an incredible job. HPV can be very serious in those of with compromised immune systems, sooo..... DEFINETELY, have your doctor make a diagnoses, and then get the treatment that is neccessary.

I am not sure if anyone directed you to this link ; Info

I thought I had them, but it was a "fibroma". My friend Felix used Aldara. It worked but it is very irritating and you have to follow the instructios precisely. The good thing about Aldara is that it clears the virus instead of only burning the wart. Price: 85 Euros.

Sounds like early stages of HPV. If treated now as opposed to later, you may be able to avoid surgery. I had them, my regular DR thought I needed surgery.
But when I got to the specialist, he put some crazy mixture of what felt like burning acid, and they went away in a week. Thank God. This is something you want to deal with now. BE BRAVE and best of luck.
