I may need an attorney for copyright infringement...

I am a student so currently I am not wealthy. I received notices stating I can be taken to court for copyright infringement. Someone used BitTorrent in my home. Not myself.
I called an attorney in Texas. He will call me today at 1:15 my time.
I have not slept most of the night. I tried to sleep, but I kept hearing my husband's tv show. Which in turn kept me alert to my thoughts. At first I was so worn out I would have slept straight through the night!
Apparently the attorney working for the pornography production company does not care I am a student currently on SSI, food stamps, and my only property is a vehicle is from1997.
I might be getting sued.
Does anyone here know of where I can find legal help? Free legal aid in Montana cannot help as this is considered a case the attorneys can earn money from. That is the reason I was given.
I am stressed and worried.

Can you be more clear -- did you receive a letter or email about copyright infringement and what exactly does it say?

Different internet service providers react to these issues than others -- some will turn over customer information while others will not.

Generally attorneys for porn companies are trying to frighten people with these letters hoping they will pay a lump sum settlement to make the issue go away. It helps that, especially with gay porn, closet cases will pay to make it go away, etc.

My advice would be to simply ignore it. If they make a judgement against you they can not legally collect against someone on social security with no other income, as far as I know.

I am not sure if this will ever amount to any legal trouble for you but if it does effect your household and it was not you or your child who was in violation of the law then the person that did it is in trouble and not you . If it was husband that did it then it affects you for sure but he will need to deal with it himself . If he gets sued it does effect you so I can see where you are concerned about that .
