flea control for pets

I've been using Frontline Plus for the cats and dog this year.

This is the first year in my 20 years as a pet owner that I've had to treat a pet for fleas (it's been a particularly bad season, according to the vet).

My question:  Have any of you tried the kits like this one?

The prepackaged, premixed individual doses are at least 3x as expensive, and they're really biting into my budget.

Any feedback or suggestions?

I give my dog a bath with dawn dish soap. It really works and is a lot less expensive than those over the counter shampoos.

I got this from a pet book. This will last a while. Rinse well avoid eyes and ears

1/2 c. dish washing liquid (ivory is the safest)
1/2 c. Listerine (original)
5 drops of teatree oil
1 cup of water
mix well



To clean ears and eyes:
dip cotton ball in lavender tea water or Chamomile(free of caffeine)  and squeeze excess water out wipe ears gently.

I almost forgot brewers yeast keeps fleas away. Add to food or sprinkle on fur. When dog licks fur he/she digests brewer yeast. Fleas and misquotes sense it through animal's pores and stay away. Not to mention it's full of vitamins and minerals.

Jerry, that is what my vet said to wash them with, was dawn. You can also put it in a spray bottle and spray their bedding too. This has been a bad year for fleas.

I have also heard that if you give your dog a garlic vitamin pill it will keep the fleas and ticks off of them.

I'm strickly holistic. I don't use Dawn because it has FDC dyes which I avoid in food, lotion etc.My dog eats home cooked meals:recipes from a book titled The Dog Ate It, foods you and your dog can enjoy together free of chemicals, artificial preservatives etc.  I spray my bed with teatree oil mixed with 20 ounces of H20. We also use Frontline Plus for our 3 dogs and Judd our Husky mix goes bonkers for 3-6 hours after each application. I happen to meet someone recently works for the company who makes Frontline and he said he's never heard of such a drastic reaction. Judd got his last treatment of the year last night. Next year we will look into other medications.
