Loss of a friend: Tom Casey (1945-2007)
« on: April 09, 2007, 01:32:21 pm »
It is with the greatest of sadness that I announce the passing of Tom Casey on April 6, 2007.  Tom lived with HIV for almost 25 years and was one of the co-founders of our HIV Social Group (Florida).  Tom founded the group in the belief that pozzies had already given enough sorrow to HIV and what was needed was a group social setting where HIV was rarely the focus of discussion.

Tom believed that everything had its time and place and lived his life to the fullest.

His life motto: "No sorrows, No regrets!"

Tom, you will be missed, but never forgotton.

All of our love,

The HIV Social Group Florida

I am sorry for your loss, Joe.

And our collective loss of a good person.

Dear Joe,

First of all I want to thank you for your warm welcome to these forums. I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. He who lived 25 years with this disease is someone who deserves much admiration from all of us and may his soul rest in peace. It hits hard when we find out a fellow positive person dies, it's reality.

Regards.

Joe,

Thanks for this notice and for the emotion which is obviously attached.

My heart goes out to you and Stephen today and I trust you will find peace in the fact that Tom is no longer in pain.

With Love and Sorrow,
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

Another reminder of how very real this disease will be for all of us.

My thoughts are with you Joe.  Thank you for posting this, and remember to celebrate his life.

Thank you all for your support and Molten, I am holding up fairly well, because we knew Tom was going to die, just not when.  Tom was one of those lucky souls who went for decades with needing drugs until late 2000 when his health really stated to decline.  Strangest thing was he was allergic to almost all of the meds they tried on him and nobody can tell us why that happened.  Tom knew his fate and while he accepted support, he refused to wallow in self-pity.  Hell, he even coordinated our "Happy Hour" just the week before last... and now he is gone.

I keep telling myself that each death will get easier, but they never do.  I do not suppose they ever will.

I used to think that as well. Since I was DX poz a year ago, I have lost two friends. One recently, and I know how it feels. You guys are in my prayers.

Dear Joe

I am deeply sorry for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful man - dignity and bravery in the face of illness and death is tremendously admirable. I am sorry that at the end the drugs failed him.
