Cause for worry?
« on: May 19, 2012, 05:44:20 am »
Hi all...

I am new to the forum.

My boyfriend is HIV+ and I am HIV-. When we are intimate, we always use protection and I always stop oral activities when the precum starts to come out (I usually check by giving a little squeeze - if there is nothing, I continue, if there is a droplet, I stop)... ..my question is... he inserted his penis for less than 30secs into me... while there was no precum! Should I still be concerned/worried about transmission?
He assured me it was safe and I trust him that he knows more about what is risky as he has the info from his doctors.
His viral load is undetectable and his CD4 is well above 570.

Thanks in advance.

Star,

Your story reminds me of the kid who died playing russian roulette because his mate was like "totally sure" the pistol wasn't loaded.

What I'm trying to say is you've gotta start taking being in a serodiscordant relationship much more seriously than you have been if you want to stay HIV negative.

The oral sex you talk about is not a risk for HIV transmission. Why you're worrying about precum but then letting your lover stick his bare cock in your ass is the real issue here.

HIV can be spread in the following ways:

Unprotected vaginal and anal sex;
Sharing contaminated injecting equipment such as needles and syringes;
In some cases from HIV positive mother to her unborn or nursing infant.

Precum or not, letting someone have unprotected anal sex with you is a risk. In your case it's a very very small risk but it's a risk none the less and you do need to be tested for HIV as a result of this encounter. The window period for HIV testing is three months from the date of the most recent episode of unprotected sex.

You need to take this shit seriously. HIV is most commonly spread withing regular relationships. Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread. It contains links to our lessons on HIV transmission.

Thanks for the reply Mtd. I will definitely be going for a test after 3 months. I admit, this was a bad thing.. and rest assured it will not be happening again. It was the first and last time for this. We are usually super safe in all that we do.

I'll go check out the Welcome Thread as well.

Take care and thanks again for the advice.

MStar.
