What is this song about?

I loved James Blunt's Wise men back in 2006, but never knew what the song was about.  Does anyone know?

I'm not sure.  I did a google search asking what it meant.  People gave their interpretations.  There were other sites as well.  One person said it is about a war he fought in.  I didn't realize that.  One said friends using drugs, religion, etc.
