Title: Dr. Robert Frascino (Dr. Bob)
Post by: tednlou2 on September 21, 2011, 03:07:03 am
Hello everyone.  I hope this finds everyone doing well.  It has been nearly 4 months, since I was last here.  I took a break from here as well as reading thebody.com.  I decided it was time to get my feet back into the water.  First, I got onto the body.com to read up on what they're covering.  Looking for some humor, I clicked on Dr. Bob's forum to see whether he's still getting all the "Can I get HIV from a fart?" questions.  I was shocked and saddened to read the message that he passed away Saturday.

I know some wondered whether what he did was of value--all those HIV charged fart questions.  Besides that, he also had a forum on fatigue and anemia with HIV.  He also had an HIV charity that has raised over $1.5 million for people living with HIV.  I definitely took inspiration from him.  I would tell myself here is a man living with the virus for 20 years and approaching 60, and he was so active.  He ran a charity, answered thousands of questions, was a husband, and traveled the world.  He certainly didn't let HIV get in his way.  I believe the last thing I read from him was about his trip to down under for an HIV conference.

I was planning to make my first post back an Off Topic post about summer vacation, but I will save that for later.  Here is the body.com's story about Dr. Bob:

How horrible.  Nice guy.
Does bacterial sepsis mean he died of an untreatable bacterial infection?

Horrible.

Dr Bob I enjoyed your humor and the way you told it like it is.

What a shock. It always saddens me when I have to add someone to the Memorial Directory, and this one was particularly poignant - I suppose because I felt like I knew him and because he did so much for people living with hiv.

I too will always remember him for his sense of humour, even if some of his risk assessments frustrated me when they were brought to this website via frantic Worried Wells.

Rest in peace, Dr. Bob, you will be missed.

That's so sad, I read many of his entries and replies to other people. He has certainly helped many, many people with and without HIV. And just earlier this year he posted on his blog about his perspectives of a cure, and was optimistic about it.

What a shame. Rest in peace, Dr. Bob. Your efforts were not in vain.

Wow, that's horrible.  He was definitely my favorite Dr. in the "ask the experts" area.

I'm shocked and sad.  He will be in my thoughts today.

I also went online yesterday to thebody.com to see some of the questions in his forum section.

At first when I saw his picture in the home page I didnt realise he passed away. I thought (without reading the description next to his image) that he wrote another part in his blog.

When I actually saw "remembering Dr. Frascino" I was FROZEN and SCHOCKED.

I feel devastated. I did not know him in person of course. But he was a VERY BIG LIFELINE for me.

I heard that in the past he was quite passimist about a cure for HIV, but since lately he actually began saying it will happen. When I was down because of the virus, I went to his blog and read his post that said HIV Cure is coming in the future for sure. That lightened up my day in a second.

He was somewhat of a guru for me - A well educated man, activist, who lives life disregarding his HIV. I always think of him as of how I want to live like having HIV.

I will also be sad he wont be able to enjoy the cure when it comes. For a man living with it so long, helping other people living with it, it really makes me want to cry.

This brings me D-O-W-N everytime I think of that..

My loss is definitely a huge one..

When I saw Dr Bob's smiling face on the front page of the thebody, I simply assumed he had posted another inspirationnal post that I would get to during the week end.

The content was a shocker.

I had read a lot of his post and, with the magic ot the internet, many people will still do so.

Living with HIV can be challenging

Living with HIV AND Dr Bob made things easier.

On the positive side, we still live with HIv and we still live with Dr Bob (in our heart!)

Dear Doc, when I meet with you up there, I'll buy you a cappucino !

Many thanks from all of your regular readers.

Eric

This is indeed sad news.

I hope Dr. Bob is remembered for all he did to help support all of us living with HIV.  I spent alot of time reading the forums in thebody.com when I first was diagnosed.  Dr. Bob helped make me laugh when I didn't feel like laughing.  He also was the one that helped me realize that I could maintain my "magnetic" relationship -- he and his partner did so for so long.

RIP Dr. Bob and thanks for all the laughs (and the tears).

Mike

OMG, why do I seem always to be the last to know?  He was my first HIV doc and I'm so greatful that I got to know him in the early 1990s.  I think I'm going to cry for a few and then think good thoughts.
