First Illness since Diagnosis

My dad brought the cold into the house, and it made the rounds. I'd thought it had passed me up until I woke the other morning with a sore throat. Now, I just have one blocked nostral and one leaky nostral. Every couple of hours, they switch just to for extra fun. Sneezing off and on, and my nose just hurts. I was coughing a little this morning, but since I smoke, that may have just been the morning smoker's cough.

I know this seems like a silly question, but should I be worried? My CD4s are in the 500s, and I'm undetectable. I should just fight it off as I did when I was neg, right?

No need to worry with your numbers I don't think.  HIV folks still get colds, etc... no way around that.  I caught bronchitis back in February and now that my numbers are very high I fought it off quite well.  Just be prudent and take care of yourself until it's exited.

When I was first diagnosed every time I sneezed, coughed or just felt poorly I thought, Oh no.  As Philly said we still get colds.  I think it is something most if not all go through initially.

I've had more sniffling, sneezing, coughing and wheezing than I care to recall during this past winter.  It's just what goes around...same as it ever was.  Phooey!- especially since I just read that you smoke!  Get used to it, doll.  It's gonna come around again now and then.  Try to "breathe easy" about this incident.

IMHO I think you need to worry more about your smoking than the cold. The cold will pass. The effects of smoking will continue to pound your immune system as long as you continue to smoke. Just saying.

Damn Molten, you've lasted this long w/o being sick at all?  I think you'll be fine fine GREAT.

Of course you should quit smoking, but if you do smoke....have one for me! *sigh* I miss them so!

Molton,  you have a cold....  Its a cold... Its nothing but a cold.  Colds come and then, they go...  They do go... But then sometimes, they come back, but then they go away again....   "Illness" is not a cold...   Having your leg or head fall off, that would be an Illness...  Your going to be fine....

Don't stress out about a cold, there will be many more to come.  Do take extra care of yourself.  If you can't quit smoking, try to cut down.   I just quit smoking cigarettes after 20+ yrs of heavy tobacco use, so I won't preach.
I'm a newbie to the forum but living poz for the past 10yrs.  I used to freak out everytime I caught a cold, thinking it was some opportunistic infection, now I look back and laugh.
