How many times a year do you see your ID doctor?
« on: August 13, 2007, 08:27:15 pm »
Just wanted to know how many times a year you see your ID doctor?

I see mine every four months. Also I get blood work done 3 times a year, as for now my numbers look bad but my VL is undectable. I have noticed that some go get there blood work done every two months why is that? Also there numbers are a hell of alot better than mine are.

When I was first diagnosed I had to get blood work done every week for over four months until I was undectable.

I must really be losing my marbles.  I could swear I have already posted this in this thread.

I was seeing my doc every six or seven months.

Since I switched meds, I have seen him more often, but expect to go back to about twice a year.

I've been undetectable for several years and my CD4 has been in the 700 range so I have chosen to have labs every 6 months. I don't have an ID doctor and just see my PCP. We have been working together for 13 years now and he is very knowlegable regarding HIV. If I have any kind of problem I call his office and he sees me the same day.

:)  Got me a little confuz-zled also, with the other thread. Just like the other thread titled "Survivors guilt". Realized it was in two different forums.

Anyway, I will answer again, Once every three months, or 4 times a year. ( unless something else comes up !)

No ID doctor, but I have a GP with a large HIV practice.  Between one thing and another it probably averages out to once a month this year.   Maybe I go more often since we've got that gall-darned commie socialized medicine stuff up here ;)

I started seeing a new doctor and just had my labs done.  He would like to see me again in another three months; however, if my next set of labwork shows that my CD4 and VL counts are holding steady or improving, I would only need to see him twice a year.

For the first year after the bomb dropped, four times a year.

Since the meds worked so well to reduce my VL, now I go twice a year.

when i've been bad and gone off the meds and the VL has skyrocketed, my doc makes me come in every month to nag me about compliance. Now that I'm on a better regime, I'm on the 3 month plan too. I had the whole summer off and will be getting blood work done this week. Then a trip to the doc in two weeks to get the results. Hopefully, it'll be another 3 months till I see him again. ;)

My PCP is also an HIV Specialist so I do not have an ID doc per say.  There was a time I had appointments every week and now since I am stable with a good CD4 count and an undetectable VL, I am on the once every 5-6 months depending how our schedules work out.  Every twelve months I do the full bloodwork thing including lipids, STD panel, etc along with the HIV crap and metobolic panels.

I do not have follow up appointments to discuss results, he just mails them to me.  If there were an issue he would call and schedule an appointment.  He says I am one of his healthier patients .... that is always good hear since 2.5 years ago I was on deaths door step.
The difference between an overnight and a layover is luck!
