America's Got Talent...President Obama does an Al Green-like...

...singing snippet while at the infamous Apollo Theater in New York for a speaking engagement.  Of course, the crowd went wild.

 :D

With all the political whip snap going on, this was a pleasant diversion for a few moments.

When I first saw the news teases about it on the day it happened, I thought they were talking about the Gaga mash-up for "Born This Way."  When I saw it, I was very impressed with his skills.  Very nice voice!

I loved Al Green's work from back in the early 70s and I remember being disappointed when he switched from R&B to gospel and became a Rev and all that. Of course, I was also happy when he went back to R&B in the late 80s. Such a beautiful, soulful voice.

Obama's rendition sounded great. Too bad he didn't sing more!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Long time fan here, his music is timeless.  I don't know how true it is, but legend has it that Mr. Green found religion after a lady friend threw a pot of scalding grits on him.  Here's the cloudy part, she committed suicide after with his .38 Special (remember those?) however, there seems to be a suspicion he actually killed her.

Gives new meaning to the song How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.  I suspose one of them really didn't want to Stay Together.
I despise the song Love is in the Air, you should too.

Yep, that's right. There are some articles cited on his Wikipedia page about it. If I recall correctly, suspicion did initially fall on him that he shot her but he was pretty quickly cleared.

Just don't cheat on your wife Thomas, or she might throw hot scalding grits on you too, or maybe cut-it-off so no other woman can have it  ;D
