It's a washout  here on the Gulf coast.  Plenty of rain yesterday, and it's been raining most of the day today.  Looks as though, the 4th of July fireworks  is canceled for tonight.

I like BT's Speedo suggestion, it's a good one, lol. It's been mega hot here too but nowhere near AZ temps, ICK!!! I wouldn't feel too bad about the fireworks being cancelled on the Gulf Coast. For some reason, I just don't think it wise to set off a bunch of explosives near a bunch of oil. Hope everyone had a good 4th.

Last week, we had a few days that were so nice.  Beautiful blue skies and very low humidity.  I guess that is over.  I hate it when you walk out your door and you are hit with all this humidity that you could cut with a knife.

Last year, June was very rainy.  July was actually so cool.  I remember several days in the 60's and where we actually had to wear jeans and a jacket.  Last year, we only had 13 days in the 90's.  So far this year, we've had like 26 I believe.  Some believe last year is proof global warming doesn't exist.  They don't realize it causes weather extremes and weird weather patterns.

By the way, a new document was just released where President Nixon was briefed about global warming.  He was told CO2 needed to be controlled.

We're OK here in Clearwater,FL .  No oil this far down, just around the Panhandle.  Our beeches are still in excellent shape. So, if anyone wants to vacation here, oil is not a problem, and, we welcome the tourists !

There was so much rain yesterday and Saturday, that a lot of the bar and restaurant business took a beating.

The rain broke last night, and they ended up holding the fireworks after all.  Watched them from the roof at work.

Hey Ms. P - how you holding up?  I didn't see you on earlier and saw what the temps were -- being a Northerner myself (originally from Erie, PA) I know a lot of people up there either don't have A/C or central A/C -so those temps have to be a bitch.  I remember as a kid we use to put the window unit A/C in one room and all sleep in there.

Hopefully, relief is coming your way soon.

I have central A/C-heating in my hovel, otherwise I'd die because I live in a 130 year old row house on the top floor -- without it it's an oven.

But the A/C has been running non-stop for months it seems, and though I'm on budget billing I know they're going to majorly jack up my monthly price any time now.

I need a Sugar Daddy.

to help beat the heat, i made homemade vanilla ice cream tonite.
gonna try lemon shorbet tomorrow

although I am enjoying the heat in SC after all my years up in cold OH, I could do with a nice sunny 50 degree Ohio spring-like day (to those of you who have heard this before, yes, I have been lowering my qualifications on that OH temp as the heat hasn't let up here) so I could get some yard work done without losing 5lbs sweating just being outside for a couple of hours.

Besides, the heat and lack of rain hasn't done a damn thing to curtail the skeeter problem. >:(

I have been trying to talk my self out of putting in a pool to cool off in .
my pool is so warm it feels like bath water. tomorrow I'm going to drain part of it and put in some damned cold water. A pool is supposed to be "refreshing", instead it's so warm it makes me feel like peeing when I get in it.  :D ROFLMAO

Just saw a report that Phila. was sitting at a steamy 91 degrees at 9:30am. Geez, even in Texas on our triple digit days we would not be at 91 at 8:30am.

It's currently 102℉ in Philadelphia at 4:00 PM - the projected low for tonight will be a balmy 80℉.  It's also supposed to be 102℉ tomorrow :(  Maybe I'll escape to the movies and see two shows in one day, but frankly I'm afraid to leave the house and take the subway because if you don't know, at best it would be 120 degrees down there.

The previous record high for this day was 98℉

At least I have my blood orange frizzante with vodka to amuse myself.

ps: we'll have 3 days of below 90 degree weather after this before our next heat wave starts on the 13th, which mean I'll be miserable when I go to NYC on a trip for a week during that.

I feel for you folks back east. It must be horrid.

Here in the High Desert, it has been quite pleasant. We have been in the mid to uppper 80s, with a few 90s thrown in for fun.

The nights are pleasant, dropping to the mid to low 50s, which makes sleeping easy.

Oh, our humidity level has been just the way I like it - 6 percent as of today.

I live in heaven, what can I say?

Oh Ann...70 degrees- that is heaven, and Mark the 6% humidity in the southwest does sound great.  Bottle it and send it out, you'll be super rich!  The subway platform Philly speaks of in the city of brotherly love was crazy hot today in NYC but luckily I didn't have to wait too long before the air conditioned train came along.  Fearless..It is most difficult and even dangerous to live in these parts of the USA east of the Mississippi River without a/c, I could give it up during the day if need be to have it at night when I sleep. At this point I'll take it over the minus 5 temps with the winds of February, or more to the point I'll take any weather I can get already!!! ;)

It's just the start of them lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer..............

Yes dear, +100 is abnormal but summers here often get to the lower 90's.  I have central A/C even in my lil' urban cesspool hovel.  This isn't Newfoundland.

I was reading an article yesterday and one of the methods stated for beating the heat was to put your sheets in the freezer before going to bed.  If you guys have any blackouts David it might be a good idea.

What's a summer without hot sticky uncomfortable nights trying to sleep naked with just a sheet over one leg, window/s wide open, and mozzies somehow managing to get in through the fly screen? Tossing and turning at 3am, trying to decide if it will be better to put that noisy fan on for some relief but also making it impossible to sleep or to just lie there still as and hoping you doze off, only to be woken at 5.30 am as the hot morning sun blazes in through your window. Give me this ahead of AC any day.

Skeebo - a cold water shower just before bed helps too.

Wow, I had no idea Baltimore went all the way up to 105℉ yesterday.  It's already 90℉ right now at 9 AM and I need to run out for lactose free milk (I've recently switched thinking it may diminish my explosive-D with coffee) and I need to prance over to the post office to mail out two packages of my niece's dance recital... such a good uncle I am!

I may also pick up biscotti from here... makes the coffee routine complete!

I may have to feign A/C malfunction so that I can seek refuge in Apartment 3R where a nice young Brazilian named Miguel just moved in last week.  And yes, he's a cock sucker too.

I definitely won't be hitting up Lindsay in 3F because he's simply the nastiest homosexual to have ever walked the face of this good Earth.  Vile is a compliment for this guy.  All of the meth he used to abuse permanently compromised his brain cells and personality.

It's odd how my landlord seems to only rent to queers -- we have a typical overweight lesbian couple on the first floor, and now that the guy in 2F was found dead with rigor mortis  so bad that body fluids had seeped into the flooring we only have one hetero left in the building.

Dayum!!  It's 88 here.  Tomorrow it's supposed to get up to 94 degrees.  You  probably don't get the breezes we get down here which kind of helps cool things off.

It's 103 in Richmond.  That's the only place I could find that is hotter right now than here -- DC, Baltimore and NYC are all a degree or two below us.

Yes dear, +100 is abnormal but summers here often get to the lower 90's.  I have central A/C even in my lil' urban cesspool hovel.  This isn't Newfoundland.

Definitely. I live in the Philly suburbs.  98 degrees is usually the extreme for summers here. But this heat is ungodly!!! I have been sleeping right near the air conditioner the past few nights.  It's almost 9pm... still 90 degrees. I will take the three feet of snow we had this winter anytime over this heat. I hate summer.

Hottest day in 15 years as Philly hits 103

By Peter Mucha
Inquirer Staff Writer

At 3:07 p.m., the temperature hit 103 at Philadelphia International, making today the hottest day in 15 years, according to the National Weather Service.

The next hottest day was Tuesday, when the high was 103.

The last time back-to-back days hit triple digits was Aug. 8 and 9, 2001.

Today's high  left the previous record of 98, last reached in 1994, choking in the dust.

The last 103 recorded in Philadelphia was on July 15, 1995.

Almost all afternoon -- from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. -- the temperature was 100 or more.
...

Today's low, though, could be even be even more historic - potentially setting an all-time mark for any day of the year.

Overnight, the lowest temperature was 83 degrees, and the previous highest such mark is 82, last reached on Aug. 8, 2001, the first of the last tandem torchers (or tortures).

It could dip below 82 by midnight, but it should be close, with 83 predicted for 11 p.m., 81 for midnight by the hour-by-hour forecast at weather.com.

Last night, the temperature was 85 at midnight.

So the old mark of 79 for July 7 probably will be toast.
