Preliminary POZ Oraquick not confirmed...

Hi All--

Here's my situation:

40 year old gay male...always safe anal sex...never without rubbers..

Gave a blow job to a guy (unprotected)...no climaxing but some pre-cum, unknown status.
NO ARS symptoms...
35 days after experience...took an ORAQUICK...very faint second line.
They drew blood that day to confirm....sent to lab for EIA and WB.  NEGATIVE.
I guess my question is what are my chances of me still seroconverting and thus
these discordent test results..or could it be a true false pos since the LAB EIA and Wb was neg.
The nurse states that these oral tests can pick up different things in the blood if
their is a family history of diseases such as DIABETES... (These were her words).
Seems odd, contrary to what I've read.

Also, does the LAB EIA check for both the P24 protein antibody in addition to the IgM antibody.
I heard the fourth generation  tests do...

I scheduled a follow up draw on 8-31.

BTW, I know I have to wait the protocol of 13 weeks; I'm just trying to get some insight here.

Giving a blowjob is more a theoretical risk than one that happens in the real world. You seem to already know about the long-term studies of serodiscordant couples. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Oraquicks can and do return false positive results. Thats why they took blood to double check and your results from that were negative. You can read more about hiv testing by reading the Welcome Thread and following the Testing Lesson link.

Although you don't really need to test further, I don't expect your result to change if you do.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Keep using those condoms for intercourse and you'll continue to test negative. Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line for a plain-speaking refresher course.
