Social Security Death List , needing LINK !

 Hello Everyone ,
                        I'm trying to help a friend find out if her
   Mother really croaked .

   I used to be able to go to SS.Gov   and get the death list .

 having no luck .

Getting ready for a fabulous Chicago trip also.  I'm a bit confused wondering why someone wouldn't know if their mother died?  Have they checked the obits in the local paper?  Obviously, they didn't have a close relationship so what are they attempting to accomplish?

There must some type of Bureau of Vital Statistics or similar in the state in which the mother died, where they record birth and death certificates...usually it's a fee to get the actual certificate but you should be able to call them for free and find out if the document exists. Do you have anything to go on? Last known residence? also it's ssa.gov these days...where you actually able to find out if someone died? I would think even the federal government would want money for that info..

  Yes she had a disconnected  relationship , She is as old as me   :-X

   She  does not wish to have anything as her Father is alive , But wishes
  to know IF her  siblings are messing with her .

She can do a quick check at Ancestry.com if she knows particulars like, date of birth, last residence and of course her mother's name:
