Check out the video of naked ACT UP activists in Congressman Boehner’s office.

awesome!
We've got a Rally/Press Conference at the State House in Columbia, SC; a training session; and then a Community Forum, all advocacy events educating for Medicaid Expansion, coming up on Dec 11th. Maybe I'll try this tactic. ;) It'll be a sure way to get on the news and rile up all those Republicans in the capital building. ;D ;D

I always assumed his name was pronounced boner. (I've never heard his name mentioned on the news, as I don't live in the States.)
Good for them - I'm proud of the protestors. Harks back to the old days of die-ins in the streets of NYC. We need more bold statements like this, and the people willing to make them.
I love some of the chants - like; "budget cuts are so rude, that's why we have to be so nude!" Great stuff. Nice to see so many women taking part as well.
As one of the men later on in the video (17:23) says; "If we don't put our bodies on the line, who will?"
ACT UP, FIGHT BACK, FIGHT AIDS!
Thanks for posting this Em! :-*
By the way, if this thread hasn't had many views/replies by tomorrow morning, I'll move it to Living where it will be seen by more people. It's too inspirational to be unnoticed here in the Activism forum!

Love it !

Thanks Ann! My first thought was to put it in Living With because it's such a great current event! By all means, move it. BTW -- I actually heard him explain one day that some people think it should be pronounced boner -- it was funny to hear him talk about it. I suppose it's one of those names that you gotta, well, rise above? rise with?

Yeah, ok, I'll move it. They deserve a wider audience and I hope they inspire some here to join ACT-UP. Proposed budget cuts are a real and present danger to Americans living with hiv and American society in general. Ryan White, ADAP and HOPWA (do I have that last one [the housing one] right?) are the only things standing between a lot of Americans and a painful, protracted death.
I also wondered in the past if his name was perhaps pronounced "benner", but with that prominent O, boner was the choice that rose to the top - although it was a hard choice. heh.
Do you know if there's a clip somewhere on teh interwebbies showing him talking about it? Might be good for a chuckle or twenty.

It was really fun getting this to happen with an amazing group of people. ACT UP is getting a RISK TAKERS award here in New York tonight and some of those present will be among those who did the action in DC yesterday. Besides being fun this was a very effective action to focus on the reality that AIDS cuts Kill!
I'm flying out to Detroit tomorrow to work with a great local group of people on World AIDS Day and Detroit Fights AIDS events.

and here's what I saw -- it was a graduation speech he gave in which he talks about his name and it was after all the Anthony Weiner non-sense of his sexting pics of his naughty bits cloaked in underwear. It's cute actually.

My goodness! This is an interesting world I've just entered into!

I was proud of these guys, I don't think i would have the balls to stand there naked like that...lol. I seen these folks on CNN this morning, they certainly got some attention.
I wonder if that guy in the beard needs a boyfriend... :)
-
Me Too! I've lived a quiet life behind the scenes, but I think my evil twin sister inside me, Felecia, is about to come back to life and act up!
-
Yes, I loved it when I saw this.
Took guts to do that. I don't know that I could go naked in public, at least not without several cocktails. ;)
Oh, and Ann, I still prounounce his name "boner."
HUGS,
Mark

The press and net coverage of this action has been and continues to be amazing. This Saturday night there is even going to be a parody of the action on Saturday Night Live. All of which will make it way harder for Congress to make the threatened cuts in HIV/AIDS budgets.
Last night ACT UP received a RISK-TAKER AWARD from Jews for Racial and Economic Justice for 25 years of work in the epidemic.
A rockin' week it has been! I'm off to Detroit this afternoon for 4 days of World AIDS Day efforts including 2 showings of SURVIVING A PLAGUE. The goal is to keep the momentum going AFTER World AIDS Day. Detroit Fights AIDS!

I'll be waiting up for this!
