Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

My risk of HIV? Please help.

About a month ago I was in the gym playing a hockey game and I was the goalie. There are these pads we slide around to make it easier to move on the gym floor. Anyway I noticed the top of a nail used to make the pad had been digging into my skin and was bleeding quite a bit. (it's not something you would likely to bleed on, just that I had not noticed it digging into me) I looked on the pad and saw no visible blood but I probably wouldn't because it was black. I know nobody had used it for about 17 hours. Is there an HIV risk if someone else bled on it before me? Thanks. (I know it sounds confusing but it's the best way I could put it)

There is absolutely no HIV risk in the situation as you described it.

HIV is transmitted INSIDE the body. You won't get it from sliding around on a pool of blood, much less using equipment that someone else might have bled in hours (even minutes. Even seconds) ago. HIV is simply too fragile for that.

HIV is a fragile virus. Once exposed to the air it quickly becomes non-viable. You are worrying needlessly.

Let it go and get on with your life. Really.

How come there have been a few cases of HIV from razors and other sharp objects if it dies so quickly?

Don't know what you are referring to. When carefully examined those kinds of stories never seem to hold up.

You are just scaring yourself unnecessarily with a lot of what ifs that have no basis in HIV science. Cut it out and get on with your life.
