Title: Am I really positive?
Post by: tenzen on February 09, 2013, 06:23:02 pm
Hey guys,

I just tested positive a few days ago. My doctor brought me the news and I am puzzled by this. I have been sexually active but I've never had unprotected sex in my life. Not even a slip up. The only recent incident I could think of (and I will need your advice on this) is I was messing around with this one guy. He tried to penetrate me analy but I did not let him. His penis was definitely in the anal area but I contracted it and did not let him in. He of course touched the outer tissue but I do not know how much this affects a test.

Other than that I have been with someone else regularly (who has tested Neg in Nov 2012) and we have done oralsex and protected sex so I have no idea what to think.

I am not trying to be naive or anything but how is the margin of misdiagnosis?
I also i have ADHD and am irregularly on Aderrall, not sure how that affects it.

I would appreciate the help I am so desperate and frustrated :(

Are you in the US?

What kind of HIV test was done and was it confirmed by a Western Blot test?  If the Western Blot test was positive then you are indeed positive.

Yes I am in the US (NYC) and I doubt it was a WB test. I went to a doctor for other reasons and he just had to be taken blood and they checked it for STDs. I do not know if they use WB for general blood tests like this. I am still due to see an HIV specialist.

What are some well-known other causes that could diagnose you pos?

If your doctor did an HIV test a Western Blot was most likely already done (assuming you had a blood test and not an oral quick test).  Most labs in the US automatically run a western blot test to confirm a positive result from the initial Elisa test.  In the event one hasnt been done for some reason, the HIV doc will do one.  You technically are not hiv positive until you have had a positive western blot.

I am unaware of any other condition that would cause a false positive HIV result (on a Western Blot test).

From what you described I have no reason to think you contracted HIV from the activities you mentioned.

Tenzen, you must find out if your positive hiv test result has been confirmed with a positive result on the Western Blot test. Until such time, you should not post in threads other than this one. Thank you for your cooperation.

Ann

Hm that's the question. Not to get too graphic, but how deep do you have to go in to get it? The most dangerous I can think of was this person I spoke of, who was about to penetrate me. He was far enough to block it with contraption but maybe close enough to be just a few millimeters in my muscle ring. Maybe a bit too detailed for some, but I just need to get to the bottom of this. Sorry.

@Ann I tested positive with a blood test with my doctor. I had no idea what a Western Blot was until I came here out of disparity. I did not know that WB was a requirement to post here. Sorry

You're going to need to wait until you get the results from your Western Blot test.

What are you expecting here?  We are not going to deconstruct your sex acts to figure out if/when you contracted HIV.  That is a question for the "am I infected forum" not this one.

Sorry to be blunt but we are not going to tell you "how deep you have to go" to get HIV, that's a pointless discussion.

Today is Monday, call your doctor and ask them if your positive HIV test was confirmed by a western blot test.  If it was then you are positive and our conversations can begin to help you to come to terms with it and how to move forward.   If not, your not HIV positive yet.

Tenzen ... you need to get a WB test done or find out what test your doctor did when he told you were now HIV positive and let us know so that its clear which forums you can post in . Some of the things your asking fits better in the AM I INFECTED forum .

You simple must coperate with us on this matter in order to keep posting .
