Any thoughts on POZ Personals?
« on: March 18, 2009, 04:06:13 am »

I am curious if anyone here in the forums have any experience with the personal ad aspect of this site.

I dabbled a little with it last night and have a mixed opinion. 8)

Is it me or does it have the feel of a meat market?

I was thinking how it would be perfect if it had a cheesy bartender with bad jokes and a sleezy hotel across the street.

Needless to say, I won't hold my breathe. Well, not for too long anyway. ::)

Well, I find so few options for a HIV+ Hetero male, that I personally am hoping for the best.
However, you are not wrong.

I think it's a roll of the dice kind of thing. You might get lucky and meet someone romantically or you might just meet someone and become good friends. You might meet someone who you wish you hadn't met in the first place or you might not meet anyone at all.

Keep an open mind to the experience. You'll never know unless you try.  ;)

Lots of luck.

Texan,

That is one of the funniest replies...lol.  Reminds me many years ago of an old comedy sketch.

The whole "you might"  or  " you might"  or  "you might"  lol   thought it was cute.

I've been posted on poz for awhile... I've made a few friends, been on a few dates but, I still have not found the right one... Oh ... I've also met a few I wish I did not... plus, theres alot of scammers on the site... so use caution... as with any personal web-site... one good suggestion... read the ads completely... theres some sick puppies online...lol but, its what makes the world... Real interesting? John

After I was almost violently stalked by a psychotic man obsessed with me in 2000 I gave up any and all internet anonymous sex.  However, previous to that I had tapped into a very underground group of gay Jamaicans that gave me much joy for a brief time.  I especially appreciated the one that requested that I arrive wearing a pair of soiled underwear with a hole cut in the back.

... and then there was that Santeria priest.  Now that was a good story.  He even treated me to a trip in the South Bronx for chuchifritos after rimming me for 2 whole hours.

I dunno. Being a 'mo the other options kinda suck. The only thing poz guys are interested in on the other sites are raw anon' pump and dump scenerios and one wonders why HPV is now so prevelant in gays with HIV...

Just wisht the selection wasnt so limited even in a big city like LA. Would really love it if they upgraded the personals section. Gussy it up a bit and and some more functions to attract more people.

But , that still does little to nothing in the prevention of STDs, HIV, HPV, and why put lipstick on a PIG, if you do, no matter what, it's still a PIG.....just sayin  :)

Most guys on poz personals aren't really looking for one night stands so I don't know about that. Granted there are some guys who try to use it for that.

Nothing like good cocina criolla, I say.  Did I mention the delightful young Puerto Rican guy that retiled my kitchen this weekend only wearing blue bikini underwear and a baseball cap?  I kid you not.  He's coming back to do the bathroom in a couple of weeks.  These services are being performed as a barter for the loan of a Thierry Mugler tuxedo for his brother's wedding on Sunday :)

Would he take off that bikini too if you also load him a pair of Ermenegildo Zegna's shoes to go with the tuxedo... ;D

Barbara please.  I included a pair of black Gucci slip ons and an Hermes white french cuff shirt with vintage cuff links.  He also had his pick from my collection of pocket squares and ties stored ever so tenderly in a fire engine red leather box.

The only thing I forgot to include was a pair of cashmere socks, but maybe I'll run them over to his house.

He'll definitely upstage the groom.

Back to topic. I have very good experience with poz.com.
I had a lot of responses, but choose /managed only ever to meet one guy.
The reasons for not meeting the others: no affinity, too complicated,
situational and practical reasons.
I think it helps if you know what you're
looking for. I never felt any meat market aspect.
I met a nice guy, we dated, now he's my partner.   :)

It's a MEAT MARKET baby as in the Holy Grail of One-Night, One-Weekend, One Season of SEX-FEST.  However, one does hope that love is in the Air since it is Spring, but I wont hold my breath if I were you.

Tens of thousands of personals on the most popular gay site in my country, and maybe a handful of guys say anything about being HIV+ -- even broad hints are taboo.  I was in New York and saw all the guys who openly state their status. Nice to see that in some other big cities - Berlin, for instance.

While the meat market aspect of such virtual communication may be tawdry to some, welcome for others, ANY sign of HIV+ guys seems to be an improvement over the total public denial in Western Switzerland. Really high rates of infection but no public face. OK maybe everyone thinks its a private matter and not the most important thing in a relation, or even a hook up... but still...
