Will's Pissed
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:28:10 pm »
Last week Will went down to Denver (4.5) hour drive on shitty roads, had his labs drawn and stayed overnight and came back on Thanksgiving day.   All told,  9 hours in a car, by himself and staying down in Denver by himself.  Well Dr. Ben's office called and just told us that the courier did not pick up his blood work in time and it was ruined.  FUCK FUCK FUCK....  Will is way overdue on his blood work and our next opportunity is when we go down on the week of December 16th...   Sometimes I just wana kill somebody!  Like now....

Love

Hey Eric,

It can get frustrating when you are doing your BEST to improve a situation. It is very unfortunate that the courier failed to do his job. In fact, that is a classic example of an external anxiety. Remember these you cannot control.

What is in your control is that trip on the 16th. May heart goes out to you.

Take it easy on yourself.

Make the BEST of each Day!

It seems like this round of lab tests for Will just isn't meant to happen... at least not on any planned schedule...   But the 16th is only a couple of weeks away so just go for it then.  And won't you both be able to go together then???

Eric,

Cant blame Will for being pissed! That would piss me off too. But theres nothing you can do about it now, so give Will a big hug from me. After you give him the hug from me....tell Will to give you a big hug from me.

There I have hugged you both!

You set things in motion... You want to prepare for good or bad.   Now the labs will come back on Christmas week..  Good or bad, what can I do?  Oh well...   Live and learn..  Eric's lesson number 5: "Never EVER do labs prior to a holiday"..  Im getting all my rules of hiv in-line...

Sorry,  today with Tim and everything has just been weird..  Thanks for the hugs Teresa... Thanks for letting me blow off steam... I just have to walk outside - its negative 6....

Love

I'm more than familiar with the road; it's a shitty drive even in good weather.  When it snows, it's a bear.

I just drove to SF for my labs yesterday, also 4+ hours, and the weather was nice but still not much fun.  If it was all for naught, I'd be pissed too.

Sorry Will and Eric.  It's Christmas, though, so make sure you treat yourselves when you go back.

It made my first few days of knowing I was poz that much more interesting when i had to go back and have blood drawn 3 times in two days because of these types of mishaps. There are worse things I guess.

Sorry about the lab fou-up, Eric.  I can remember showing up for an appointment at St. Vincent's in NYC, being checked in, waiting, being taken back by the doctor only to find out that the computers were 'down,' had been 'down' from the time that I checked in and so he had nothing to tell me. :(  Or the time that I didn't know to make SURE that the lab technician rocked the tube after drawing blood.  There is, as you know, nothing that you or Will can do and whatever the results are in December, they are just that: results from December 2006.  They are all parts of the longer picture which I hope is getting clearer and better for both of you.  Win
Winthrop Smith has published three collections of poetry: Ghetto: From The First Five; The Weigh-In: Collected Poems; Skin Check: New York Poems.  The last was published in December 2006.  He has a work-in-progress underway titled Starting Positions.

Eric-
Sorry to hear about your frustrations.  Can you explain why you guys have to drive 4.5 hours to get a simple blood draw done?

Eric --

I'd like to second RazorBill's question.  Have you guys looked into a closer commercial lab -- such as Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp -- that can draw the blood, analyze the results, and provide the report to your doctor electronically?  If you haven't done so already, a simple call to your doctor -- or, more likely, the administrator who handles his appointments -- to find out about alternative specimen collection sites.

Sorry 'bout all this,

Tim Horn

We have Quest here in Aspen, However, Dr. Ben's office does not charge us anymore than what our insurance will pay...  If we have it done in Aspen, its about 500 dollars out of our hospital here (which we hate in the first place)..  If it were life and death, we would go there...  Ok so we are cheap, but 500 bucks is alot of money for us.. Basically our Christmas fund..  I had my labs done here once, and Dr. Ben questioned the validity of them.  Did them again in Denver, and they were in order...  Don't get HIV in the mountains, you have to drive alot..... Lesson number 6.

Hi Eric,
I am sorry Will had to go through all that. The screw-ups, the insurance fights, all the bureaucratic nonsense can really be frustrating. Big hugs to both of you.

Man, that bites. Sometimes I really just don't understand the state of the US health care system and the expense incurred by the individual. We Canadians are _very_ lucky. I can practically get blood drawn at the corner store - well, I guess I envy you state-side folks, since that's likely as far as you have to go to get booze :D

I hope everything goes well on the 16th and it's GOOD news. Nothing sucks more than the stress of the holiday and unfortunate circumstance. Boatloads of good karma coming your way, guys, from up north.

Sorry to hear this, Eric.  While it's been a long time since Will's last labs, they were great from what I remember.  He'll probably be fine, but all the same, what a downer to have to keep waiting!

Good Lord... nothing like incompetent boobs who ruin a bunch of hard work like that to set my stomach in knots.

I have been there, my friend... and I can only let you know that remembering similar frustrations is making my blood boil right now.

What does snafu stand for?

Situation normal, all f***ed up.

I really do hope your friend is doing well.

Dr's office called and boy were they upset.   LabCorp did not communicate to the office or hospital that they discontinued doing lab pick ups the day prior to a holiday!   Will and 7 others lost out that day...   Of course Will was the furthest patient away from the office who was impacted....

Oh well,  we will try it again in 3 weeks....
